So, where to start?

I got ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World’ on dvd at Christmas, seen it a few times already but really enjoy this film.

‘Flight’ with Denzil Washigton is very good even if the last quarter of the film is very predictable. Denzil puts in a good performance as man whose life crashes the moment he becomes a hero.

‘Pacific Rim’, giant robots fighting giant monsters; what’s not to like?

Hoping to go see ’12 Years a Slave’ later this week too, more on that later.

I watched 2 movies that I would recommend but they are blokes movies.
1. the wolverine.

2. world war z.

wolverine was okay but not brilliant. I preferred origins. however I did enjoy world war z. I though it had a really good story line and a decent twist.
last night I watched Pacific Rim.
now I did enjoy that. it was like watching an old Godzilla type movie, but with a modern twist

Been waiting to watch ” a Clockwork Orange” fir thirty years because it is wonderful.

It is horrible !

Twas recommended to me a while ago & only just got round to watching it. As you say, has loads of moments that made me cringe but, still made me LOL. Sandler can be hit & miss but, I always give him the benefit of the doubt first based on The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates & Mr Deeds.

Love creature features & although Pacific Rim was panned by critics I still liked it & have preordered the Godzilla reboot cos I haven’t seen it, even though I like & have the 90’s version (which I also liked).

A Clockwork Orange has something of a cult following locally cos some small part was filmed in our old town centre but, it’s infamous because it was banned. It’s Kubrick & a bit off the typically beaten path but, not outstanding cos of that. Like I say, it’s banning exasperated the reputation of an unexceptional film, IMO.

I would say the same about Natural Born Killers, which I think is Oliver Stone but, if we’re talking about films whose notoriety preceeds them based purely on banning/censorship or criticiscism, I’d say Reservoir Dogs is not one of them. It has some credibility as a film & not just shock value because it is a dialogue & character based gangster/heist film with minimal action but, when there is, it is extreme. Be warned Reservoir newbies ;). I am not condoning what you see in Reservoir that it’s infamous for, I think if you look at it as a whole, it’s in proportion with the violent nature of the characters & the crime. And let’s be honest, it was released shortly after the race riots in LA (where it’s set) that were prompted by the documented beating by several white members of the LAPD of an unarmed black man. The establishment/censors felt the film may be incendiary ?

I, however, love Tarantino films. Often clever, articulate & well observed. Not bad for a former video store worker.
