Was on auntie duty and took kids to see Ghostbusters. Some good cracks from the halarious Melissa McCarthy. I have fond memories of the originals. Defo not as good but certanliy enjoyable afternoon out.

We watched this as I had to turn off “The 100 Code” (also on Sky) due to Dominic Monaghan’s awful American accent. Completely ruined it.
Why does Hollywood insist on miscasting people & their accents? If you want an American accent, use an American actor, the same goes for Scottish etc. etc.
Is it me or are kids films getting more & more traumatic? We watched Zootropolis & as good as it is it’s so harrowing at times.
The Jungle Book live animation is superb. I was very sceptical having fond memories of the Disney version, as I am sure we all do but, it was pretty damn good.
I think most people will recall Baloo but, my favourite in this remake is King Louie by far because of the menacing voice leant to the character by one of my favourite actors. I won’t spoil it & tell you who it is.

Last good film I saw was An Angel at my Table – directed by Jane Campion – it was based on a true story, was quirky, compelling and what a story she had to tell!

I haven’t seen it yet. I want to but, I just know I am going to be in tears of anger & frustration when I do.
So, as an uncle I have naturally embraced the newly formed cinema club at our home with founding member, niece Olivia (daughter of me idiot brother who also has MD). Aunty is very happy to have Olivia here as she will watch the same stuff that uncle loves & aunty doesn’t. So she’s off the hook
& I have an excuse to eat Herta jumbo hot dogs
.Lately, we’ve watched all of the Star Wars films together to bring Olivia up to speed & then Rogue One, which was excellent, possibly better than The Force Awakens if I am honest.
Then we worked our way through the Hobbit box set – also brilliant. Next time it’s Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.1 followed by The Lego Movie (still on the shelf unopened despite winning it off eBay a long time ago).
Watched the second season of Fortitude & I hated it compared to the first. Pretty disgusting in places.
There’s a kids film going around that’s not very well known called ‘Nine Lives’ that was also a big hit with all of our nieces & nephew… as well as aunty & uncle. Highly recommended

I have seen “I, Daniel Blake” and I think everyone should at some point. I totally get that sometimes our situations in our own lives mean we are not in the right place to see such heartbreaking things though.
There were many points in the film where I thought “I’ve read a case study where that happened” or “one of our clients went through the same thing”. It evoked lots of emotions in me. Anger, frustration, sadness at the lack of compassion but at same time, the generosity of others and human kindness that is still around us thankfully.

Watched the Hunger Games earlier this week and wouldn’t rave about it but did think it was good, having watched it I’ll record the others whenever they’re on. There’s some good stuff on TV these days, I’ve been enjoying Fargo though the latest episode has gone a bit overboard with the’out-thereness’.

Reply To: What was the last good film you watched?The last good film i watched was fundementals of caring on netflix. It is actually based on a teenage boy that has muscular dystrophy. I was reluctant to watch it at first as i was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy earlier this year but it was actually really funny and now one of my favourite films.

Reply To: What was the last good film you watched?Stan & Ollie. A very affectionate account of the last days of Laurel and Hardy. Having not a made a film in years the comedy duo undertake a tour of Britain and Ireland in the 1950’s. Steve Coogan as Stan and John C Reilly as Ollie are both brilliant. The film has a very prominent touch of pathos, but the love between the two comedians, something that has grown through thirty years of working together, is very touching. I was already a Laurel & Hardy fan before this film came out and I was not disappointed by it. Despite the evident sadness there is still a lot of comedy to be enjoyed in this movie.
