What was the last good film you watched?
Doesn’t have to be a cinema release, can be any film – what was the last film that you really enjoyed?
For me, it’s a toss up of two – Gangster Squad, meant to be set in the 1920s I think – greatly awesome and momentarily gruesome film. I just love anything pre-1940s…just an awesome feel to it!
Other one is Star Trek 2, and I am not going to lie – it made me cry! Won’t say why, in case there’s a member here that wants to see it but hasn’t yet, but yes – I cried, in the cinema, in public – and no I am not remotely embarrassed

I still need to catch up with the new Star Trek and Ironman films. I am way behind with my sci-fi and superhero viewing.
On DVD, Tsotsi. Another excellent film.

Made in Dagenham is a great film, well worth the watching.
And it all seemed strangely familiar to me, because I did a couple of summers’ work down by the Ford Dagenham plant back in the day (when I was a student, and [ahem] a few years after the film is set).

It is so good, on many different levels .. there is humour, there is guts, there is adversity, there is out-casting, there is bravardo, it is a great piece of social history. Reminded me of ‘The Rag Trade’ sitcom, which I barely remember.
Within my family [mostly Midlands based] there were ructions, when one factory [where my two aunts worked] decided to go ‘close shop’, my aunt didn’t want to and caused enough bru-ha-ha for press attention and police protection, only those in the know knew her husband was shop-steward at a different factory!

I just read the plot on IMDB…would never have guessed it was social history-based….I was expecting some sort of TOWIE malarky!

Interestingly, there’s an interview with some of the women who were involved in the Ford strike in today’s Guardian. They must’ve heard we were talking about them…

Re: What was the last good film you watched?Touching the Void was the last film to have an impact. Don’t go to the cinema that much, I did see the Magdalene Sisters there and like AMG found it moving and thought provoking.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, (DVD) Bill Nighy was sublime.
Star Trek: Into Darkness, a well written advenutre.
Iron Man 3, another well written movie.

Hot Fuzz – Pegg and Frost at their best!
King Kong (1933) – classic with restored deleted scenes.

Re: What was the last good film you watched?Recently watched : Django Unchained – typical Tarrantino. Great wordy script & bloody as hell. My interpretation is that at it’s heart it’s a love story ultimately & excellent it is too.
The Sweeney – Really wanted it to be good. I have a soft spot for big Ray & Plan B (Ben Drew) has promise as an actor & a director (an already established & succesful recording artist) but, to my mind there was too much bravado, everybody trying just that little bit too hard & it didn’t work. Maybe I expected too much because I vaguely remember John Thaw’s Regan & he made it look effortless & gritty… “We’re The Sweeney, son, and we haven’t had any dinner”
Wreck-It Ralph – Nothing special, typical Disney & I got all the game references but, good not great.
I’ve got the Hunger Games to come back to. Put it on for short time & turned it off because I just didn’t get into it straight away. Will try again.

I don’t think many here have a PS3 but, I finished ‘The Last Of Us’ tonight. It was utterly brilliant but, way too short.
Had The Sopranos box set for a while (won it cheap on ebay) & not sat down to watch it, was gonna wait till winter. Might have to bring that forward due to the untimely demise of James Gandolfini.
