Buy your magazines and books and read them on many devices. Kindle is not the only option.
Last month bought a yearly subscription to one of my computer magazine for $ 11.99, that is way
less than £ 1 a copy. Obviously there is no printing and delivery costs so the things can be
a lot cheaper. You can access and read your publications on iPad, iPhone, Android, Laptop, PC.
Also there are lots of free articles and magazines and for some reason they keep sending
me free credits to spend. There are expensive publications where they make up their profit
so it is best to pick and choose."Even if you are not paranoid, it does not mean they are not out to get you!".

ppThanks, thought I knew all the Google stuff.
They’ve laid off so many concepts but only brought in a few new ones recently. If you haven’t already signed up, go check out the Google Maps Beta – very odd at first but pretty cool (even if it’s a tad slow).

Thanks.
They had made such a mess of the maps. I hope this will solve it.

Finally the magnificent “Shatoetry” is free.
Join the magnificent adventure that is the voyage into the mind of William Shatner, better
known to you as Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise. It is so good I will not debase it with the obvious jokes relating the title to the legendary
and gloriously split infinitive “To Boldly Go”."Even if you are not paranoid, it does not mean they are not out to get you!".

A very useful App that Prints Web Pages to PDF files simply and easily.
Wherever you are it captures every detail instantly keeps all the formatting and puts it into
a PDF file. It then saves the files which can then be linked and opened and stored in virtually
any other App or programme on your device. I do it straight to Dropbox which automatically syncs
a copy back to my laptop. Also links to Google Drive, Evernote and Adobe and numerous other cloud stuff. This is the Free version where you are limited to three PDF’s a day. But for casual surfing is perfect.

However
FilmOn does have all the channels and is also a free app …. has loads of other channels too

Superb Health Free Health App that monitors and aids your nutrition.
It has a massive online database of virtually any food product that you can buy with full details
of all the nutritional and calorific content. A new feature is a QRS scanner the scans the barcode
from any packaging and adds the full manufacturers specifications. If you only ate 5/8 of your
meal you can tell it and it will calculate the values for you.Through the day it adds everything together and shows you what you are doing and what you
should be doing with regard to your health. It even asks how much water I drink and tells me
each of my Jakeman’s throat losenges is 26 calories. It asks about your exercise and lifestyle
and factors in how much of the food value that burns off. It learns your favourite foods and meals
and when you eat them and makes suggestions. You can add your own complete meal combinations
which are then added to any day in a second. You periodically add weight and a few measurements and tell it what you are trying to achieve or
maintain and it shows you constantly how you are doing and what you need to do. In my case it is
trying to get to my target of 1900 calories a day. I am guided to the higher calorie but healthy options
and am able to maintain my weight as much as is humanly possible. When I am below target I can
“Pig out” and force myself to eat high calorie stuff or fortify foods for the rest of the day.It obviously works in the same way if you want to lose weight.
Loads of graphs, pie charts and notifications. Very good App.

December 22, 2013 at 9:21 am #83744Re: The Appy Corner…..A discovery…
I have the Sky+ app which has previously allowed me to add things to my planner without using the remote and can even instruct the box when away from home.
This week had an upgrade to Sky+ HD and noticed on the app there is an on demand section – went exploring to see what new features I can use and I’ve discovered I can control the box via my phone to delete from my planner, choose a channel or watch a recorded prog by using my mobile!! This is brilliant for me as I have a simple transmitter/receiver thingy so I can watch the sky feed in my bedroom however before now have had to get someone to go into the living room and use the remote.
I am super pleased with this development

They are updating this superb App quicker than we keep up with it.
Doing it from another room is massive! Now you hardly need your remote and can lose it
with impunity and continue on just using the App. Even more using the App you can
use swipe and gesture control which is much easier that pressing buttons (especially for altering speed
of playback).Great stuff.

Wonderful rain radar Application.
You can see the pesky old rain storms heading in your direction and neatly avoid them.
Seems to work for any location and you can zoom in to make it as local as you need.

Liking this ……. boring anecdote alert – sat at helm of tall ship somewhere between Lisbon and La Palma, Officer of the Watch kept giving me minor slow course alterations. Captain came on deck looked at chart and asked why the changes, Officer declared, dodging the rain clouds. No more corrections, we got wet, but it was warm and almost refreshing

April 13, 2014 at 3:05 am #83749Re: The Appy Corner…..I discovered an app on android called ‘Auto Answer’ (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dreambit.autoanswer). It’s meant to be for drivers & the idea is, assuming they’ve got the handset in a cradle or connected to bluetooth, the phone rings for a time in seconds you determine & then the ringer stops (but, doesn’t alter the status of the incoming call). Now, once the ringers muted you can either whistle & that will automatically answer the call in a hands-free speaker/speaker mode or just ignore it.
I’ve set mine at twelve seconds & my phone is left in the bedroom as such that I can see the display when somebody rings but, if I’m too tired to reach for the handset, I just whistle. You don’t have to see who’s calling to answer, I just like to. Countless times I’ve reached out & actually knocked the phone across the room out of reach. I don’t have to risk that now. This app wasn’t intended for the purpose I use it for but, it’s made a big difference.
