I have been finding it increasingly difficult to make my self heard above background noise and on a few recent occasions have found it a bit socially isolating so I set about looking for a solution.
I contacted a company who sell sensory support devices, mainly equipment for deaf people to see if they had any suggestions. I ordered the sound amplification equipment to try – paid for but with the possibility of returning within 21 days if I didn’t get on with it.
It came on Wednesday, I unpacked it and set about reading how it worked, charged it and yesterday tested it out in various locations.
As usual I have quite a lot to talk about and my arm is a bit weak today so I’ll pop back later to talk about how it works and the fun I had trying it!

The device I ordered is about the size of a portable radio and there are various attachments to fasten or secure it plus two ways of wearing a microphone. One is a headset that you might use if you were giving a talk and the other is a smaller microphone that clip to a color or lapel. It comes with a charger and the battery lasts up to 30hrs.

Seems to have different options and a long battery life.
We will look forward to frequent updates.

January 18, 2015 at 8:34 am #95202Re: Testing, testing, 1, 2, 1, 2…It is a solution but my only issue now is the interference from my mobile and other electrical signals which causes a loud ‘da-dadada-dadada’ noise at random moments!!
I tried it different environments: at home bit in another room to my PA, in the car, in the supermarket, in the cafe. It worked really well and I think subconsciously made me concentrate on my srticulation more as well as making come out with silly announcements every five minutes… ‘Checkout number 3 please’ you can imagine
I’m going to give it a go at a meeting next week, see how much the interference noise occurs and then decide if I can put up with the noise or send it back and try a different one.
I’ll keep you posted…

I hope it does not have voice changing qualities, I can just see you addressing a meeting and breaking out into Donald Duck – oh stop my bladder cannot cope.
I wonder if an email to the manufacturers about the interference would bring back any ideas to sure. Or maybe you could just break out into some spasmodic beat-bopping rap?

I am going to email them about it tomorrow. I had it on on the car and garden centre this afternoon and the interference was quite bad, had to turn it off. I turned my mobile off which did help a little but it still happened.

I hate it when I am sat on my mobile phone next to my computer speakers and it goes all 90s internet dial-up crazy!!
