up date on ball ache wheelchair ramp. yesterday I received a phone call from adaptions. they have only suggested that I get a shed and store my chair in it. my reply was “so I spend 2 grand on a chair and leave it in a damp shed”
so I emailed them today and came up with a new suggestion.
1. picture of the wheelchair and asking does it look like a mobility scooter?
2. suggested them building a step that is a paving slab length. that way I could buy the ramp, the door wouldn’t catch it and it could be securely bolted down.
3. put a plug socket in my foyer, so I can charge the chair.people, could somebody please tell me if im being unreasonable in my request

theres no way I could get a scooter in my porch / foyer. for a start my stair lift is in the way. so manovering a scooter is out of the question.

Re: temporary wheelchair.good morning peeps. yet another update on my ramp drama. last month, I got a letter through saying that I could have the ramp. yay I thought
. the surveyor turned up on Friday to measure up and after 2mins told me my doorstep is 53mm too high .
I then noticed that he was measuring from about 20ft away. I asked why the distance, when the Disability Act recommends a drop of 1 inch in 8. his reply was I know but we prefer to double the distance. Why! I don’t know, so don’t ask.
he then proceeded to inform me that as they were no longer doing the ramp. I would have to move. so, after a massive barney and me threatening to hit him with his poxy laser device. I asked if I could buy my own temp ramp. as its spring and ive been cooped up since Nov. yes, he replies, no problems.
WTF. I asked exactly the same question back Feb and got told no, due to health and safety.
so, I have come to a decision and I have bought a ramp. its 10ft long and folds into 4 pieces

I have also decided that I will move but im going to be bloody picky, get a bungalow and only in an area that is like where I live now.

Like the look of the ramp and not too too overly over the top on the price either.

than your home. If disabled people have any rights at all it should be in this situation. He continually

Re: temporary wheelchair.hey peeps. yet another update on my chair drama. on weds I finally got round to installing my wheelchair ramp and I must say that, although I was knackered at the end. I bloody enjoyed doing it, drilling, screwing and cutting. it reminded me of the good old days
however, today after resting up yesterday. I decided to finally get out and about on it and this is how it went:step 1. made sure chair was fully charged and dropped the speed to the minimum.
step 2. went down ramp, only to discover that when I reached the bottom, my back wheels were just spinning due to my garden sloping up wards and my casters still being on the ramp.
step 3. got off chair, released motor, dragged chair on to path and reconnected motor.
step 4. got back in to chair but realised the joystick is basicly on a steel frame that is about 2″ too long for me to be comfortable
step 5. ignored comfort, just sat forward and went up the path
step 6. crash in to garden bin
step 7. nearly crashed in to neighbours car

now as you all can see from the picture, the controller comes out about 2″ from the armrest.
do any of you know of any companies that would relocate the controller on to the arm rest or have any ideas?
I know it sound pretty dumb but if I didn’t have contractures. it would be perfectly located where it is
its either relocate the controller or buy a childs electric chair .

Re: temporary wheelchair.i paid the shop i got chair from to fit a swing away control. the idea is to let you closer to tables but i drive with it to the side unless i need to fit thru a door etc had a look at mine and its fitted with 2 screws into holes aleardy there . a case of a simple bracket swap. were does control attach? does it not have a slidy adjustment thingy.

Ramp. ramps and chairs can be dodgy. its sometimes best to reverse down them.

Re: temporary wheelchair.Well maiden voyages are really just to find the kinks and snags. I sometimes think a problem with ramps is gauging a slope incline, some can be just awfully angled and others are a gentle breeze. Trial and error, thankfully that bin wasn’t a holly bush!!

im a bit scared to go out in public places like asda, as im a bit scared of hurting somebody.stefan

Re: temporary wheelchair.the chair i use for going out is an invacare pronto and it came with. but shop I got chairs from in Ayrshire(previous owner retired) fitted the invacare swing away arm bar bracket onto my Micro mambo.
I emailed your chair company via amazon and got this reply Wheelchair88 answered:
“Sorry that the controller angle is fixed, and the only way to adjust is to bend the aluminium folk (which is not too difficult with tools). We do have another model PW-1000XL which will be launching in Mid of July, that one can be adjusted.” think I would be nervous of bending anything. 
even if I could. its alot of money if it dont go right. wait and see the new chair in july. you might be able to buy the part, even if it meant a whole new arm on that side.Re: temporary wheelchair.hi catatude. yes, I saw that reply too and like you thought Hmmmmm best not lol.
i emailed wheelchair 88.com last night and they have replied this morning, asking me to take a vid of ideal position for controller. however, I have no means of shooting a video but have attached a picture of the swing arm.
they say that perhaps they could custom make something. ive told a bit of a wopper and said that this is quite an on going problem with many chairs and that perhaps it may be financially beneficial for something to come as standard in the future.
