Hello everyone.
I am no stranger to M.D. as my father, sister, uncle and grandfather all had it and passed away between ages 43 and 60.
I have never been tested. I am 46Recently in the last couple of years I have been having many health issues with symptoms as follows
fatigue
muscle/joint/tendon pain and stiffness
widespread tendonitis and pulled muscles
some joint weakness
headaches
back and neck ache
anxiety and irritability
anaemiaI was tested for atheritis but tests came back as negative so I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
You can imagine what is going through my mind.
I approached my GP about my family history of MD but he really didnt seem to think it was an issue?????
I have since read about the differences of DM1 and 2, and my question is……if your family history is (I assume based on symptoms) DM1…..could I possibly have a milder form of the illness? or DM2?
Many thanks for ANY input.

I can understand what is going through your mind especially with your family history. I have a similar problem with my father. My number two son and myself have FHSD, and my dad is showing exactly teh same symptoms. However, his GP is adamant he hasnt got it and will not organise the blood test to find out.
I think it is impreative that you insist upon a referral to a neurologist to clarify the matter for you. If you do not have it you can carry on and look at the problems in a diferent light. If you have a DM2 or other variant of MD then it will give you the chance to plan your life, and support accordingly.
Please do not accept anything less than a proper diagnosis from an expert, you need it for your own peace of mind, and if you accept something less then you will always worry about “what if”.Mike

As Mike says its best to get professional confirmation its dangerous to play google DR. If your GP wont test or support you.. I would personally think of seeing another in the practice or indeed move to another.
The big flag in your symptoms list is the Headaches. I would request a Respiratory consult. if your blood gases are not right it could be causing the head aches, fatigue irritability and anxiety.
I’m really not sure that the GP can refuse to refer you to a Neurologist. If you Post your approx location/region. I will try and get the MDUK care nurse details for your area who may have more info
