PM to write to mother of disabled girl Celyn Vincent

I’m sure some of you will have seen this story on BBC Breakfast this morning.

“The prime minister has said he will write to a woman who says she may have to put her severely disabled daughter into care, as she can no longer cope.

“Riven Vincent, from Bristol, posted a message on the Mumsnet website saying her local council had told her it could not provide more help.”

Sadly, I think this story just scratches the surface. There are 6 million carers in this country many of whom are struggling to make ends meet. :?

The government needs to do more to recognise carers’ huge contribution to social care and health care in this country, and provide proper support. Letters aren’t enough… :|

I’m sure a letter from the PM will be a great comfort! Because that’s what she needs a letter!?!

This gov’t is failing everyone & they can’t see it.

This has just gone up on the Conservativehome website,

    http://conservativehome.blogs.com/localgovernment/2011/01/the-case-of-holly-vincent.html

“She feels let down as she met David Cameron before the election and he told her that it would make sense for people in her position to get more respite care. This is a promise he is keeping with an extra £20 million for respite care – coming from some of the savings from scrapping the Child Trust Fund.”

Hmmm … someone somewhere is not getting the reality big picture for people in Celyn’s Mum’s situation – respite care can be of little help, partly because of the extra work involved in making sure the correct care is there for Celyn and that those carer’s know Celyn’s needs and what hurts. I am sure some of these professional consultants think it is as easy as taking the dog to the kennel or the cat to the cattery when a carer wants some respite care.

Well, I know what I could use a letter from David Cameron for but thankfully Andrex/Charmine are a great deal softer [and better for the job].
