    physiotherapy

What to expect during physiotherapy after a colles fracture. How long before my wrist and hand feel normal? I had a slip and fall accident two months ago and now I’m starting Physiotherapy. My hand is still swollen and the joint in my fingers and wrist are so painful after only one session. Please share your experience with me. What else can I expect?

I had my first physio appt today. Was of limited use as it was a work physio who feels I need specialist NMD physio. Now to find the elusive person to get referred onto. Been given some basic exercises for my legs and to go back next week. They are going to undertake a work place assessment to see if my post can be adapted. No able to give me support for my weak arms as apparently they fatigue too easily for any exercise. Apparently the muscles in my bottom have turned off which is way my walking has worsened.

    Keep you posted

    Cheers

Sorry your work physio was not over encouraging, hopefully they can locate a NMD physio. I had no end of ‘fun’ with the work station assessments, mainly because we were forever shifting desks and they never caught up with the current desk at the current work station, lol, still gave me ample ammo at the sicknes review meetings when the Bosses asked “What can we do to make things easier” answer :: stop moving my desk, get the action points on the latest assessment acted upon and leave me be!

When I had a round of of physio, I felt the exercises were not up to much good, but the physio said she could sense improvements, I never did though.

Shame your first physio was of little help but at least you’re in the system now. A NMD physio should have a much better understanding of your problems. The exercises I have been given to do at home are very simple and have not shown much benefit yet. My physio did make some suggestions for the gym which have resulted some improvement. Ok it’s not great but then it’s never gonna be. Anything you can do will help. Funny you should say about your bottom muscles. For a while now I’ve been thinking that I can’t feel my muscles when sitting down but, as usual, just thought it was me being silly. But they are muscles just like any other so I suppose they can get weak too. Need to exercise them as well now!!

    Take care

Things improved out of all recognition after I got the MD trained physiotherapist.

Then I got a PEP (personal exercise programme) designed for me and my condition.

Just like you, some of my muscles were just not being used. I had pains in my back so
just isolated the whole area and immobilised it. This led to muscles not being used and
just wasting away and as you say switching off. As they collapse they cause all sorts of
    posture and alignment issues.

Only had ours in Frenchay Hospital the last year or so. They are rare.

I’ve recently been referred for physio for this exact same issue. Its a rehabilitation clinc which deals with neuro conditions but mainly strokes & ms from what I can see.

I’ve just received a letter saying ‘thank your for choosing this hospital, unfortunately due to high demand we can’t offer you an appointment. We are trying to arrange more clinics and will be in touch as soon as possible’

I’m fuming! I didn’t know they could do that – I’d expect at least to go on a waiting list. I’m just wondering what to do next, I have no Idea how long I’ll have to wait
