    Periods

I’m wondering if any of the ladies on the forum find there MD symptoms around/during there monthlies? I am trying to convince myself I’m wrong but I think I always seem to be more symptomatic during this time. Wondered if going on the pill would help?

    Any thoughts

    Thanks
    Gill

I agree with Vicky, my stamina is affected just before they start.

I’m definitely much weaker for about a week before. My consultant reckons it’s due to increased progesterone levels at that time.

I don’t recall having these fluctuations in weakness when I’ve been taking the pill, so trying it is a good idea. I asked my GP about it earlier this year (also to help with bouts of acne that I sometimes get) but he’s reluctant to prescribe it now I’m over 40. He gave me northisterone which evened out the weakness, but gave me terrible cramps so I stopped taking it.

I feel weaker generally at this time and my back twinges more.

Glad to hear it not just me.

Will keep an eye on things and if things worsen will look at going back on the pill.

    Cheers ladies:-)

Just seen this post, I have to say this is a question I’ve been asking lately. I have notice that I suffer really badly around that time, I get really bad muscle spasm on the left side of the body. My gp said that the condition can mak it worse.

Yes I suffer with my periods. The first day or 2 I have felt very weak, lethargic etc. I get headaches and can even vomit. I find its worse if I’m out all day as opposed to having a steady day at home.

I suffer from particularly heavy periods anyway, but as others have said I also feel much weaker & generally quite ill for a week or so pre-period. I had the Implanon (implant) from age 13-21 purely with the intention of stopping my periods as I couldn’t manage them independantly. Worked at treat though it did ruin my skin! I’ve since tried pretty much every form of hormonal contraception there is. I found the combined forms profoundly affect my breathing, plus there’s the added risk of blood clots. I’m now on the Depo Provera injection and so far so good. Its only been a month or so and for the first couple of weeks I felt EXHAUSTED but that’s settled now.

I had the Depo Provera injection to help deal with a uterine fibroid. Glad it’s helping.

    HI claimes1

    Welcome to talkmd.

glad the depo jag is working for you. Im on month two and feeling extra tired and a few new muscle issues. thankfully periods are extra light although semi constant but better than being heavy.

    take care

    Me too.

I get very weak about a week before my period. I also get double amount of back pain and breathlessness. Iv been put on iron supplements this week for general low blood count. I was thinking recently of asking for something to stop my periods as they are so difficult to manage with my myofibrillar myopathy. I just dread them and can hardly move at all due to the extra pain and general heavy feeling. It also makes me very grumpy from the discomfort as well as hormones.

    Hi

I’m on depo Vera injection as it was deemed safer the. Pill. As risk of clots with pill due to not moving.

It can cause extra heavy bleed or next to none. I have next to none but constant over month but is luckily very slight and can have days with nothing. And has been even less on second jag.

It hasn’t helped hormone wise. Feel low and weepy all the time. And the cold inside bones feelings I get normally only a few days during regular period is present on off all month.

Just a thought on the breathlessness. Could it be the increased need to pain killers at this time. Something in the actual meds causing the breathlessness.

It could also be water retention causing distension on tummy. I was on a water pill during period.

I’m on my 2nd depo and by the second mine had stopped mostly. Tiny constant amount. Not to be gross but only really comes away when I clean myself. Depo can cause brittle bone and austioperosis (think that’s how u spell it). I was sent for bone density scan to check. Make sure you tell doc. It was my nurse that told me not gp. And I asked neuro who sent me right away.

I have had mixed opinion from medicos on the perm use of depo. 3 out of 4 I spoke to said it was a temp solution not ideal for forever.
