Wondering what everyone uses to control muscle pain? Since my decline pain has been a big issue. I currently use Paracetamol and Ibuprofen and a TENS machine. That has not helped much lately so now been given Co-Codamol instead of Paracetamol despite the fact it contains codeine which my Neuro didn’t want me to take.
Don’t want heavy duty drugs as they will tire me out more so seeking info on what works for you.
Thanks

GillThis is all right on the point.
I have ended up with Paracetamol and Co-Codamol and the Tens Machine.
Tried the as you say heavier drugs like Co-Dydramol and Ami-Tripyline but they don’t seem to
do what they should and bring heavy side effects. Trial and error lead me back to Paracetamol
and Co-Codamol, and you are right I keep getting warned that tey
both contain the same Codeine. As you say, work out what works for you by trial and error.

May 28, 2014 at 1:30 pm #91451Re: Pain ReliefHi friends,
Sorry to bring up the issue of pain relief again, but I’m wondering if anyone has tried any stick on patches [prescription only]? I’ve had bad pain in my right leg since last Friday [though it’s been building up for several months] and the maximum daily dose of paracetamol isn’t really doing the trick. I’m hoping to see my GP tomorrow for some advice & prescription and would like to know your views. I’m also taking Warfarin, so am not allowed the Nurofen type tablets.
thanks,
Sybylla

Sorry you have this problem.
Good luck with the GP.

June 9, 2016 at 4:18 pm #133103Reply To: Pain ReliefTramadol is generic medications which is very effective among all pain killer medicine. Buy online Tramadol from our online pharmacy with discount and express shipping in worldwide.
Moderators – please note, this is not a genuine md posting, but a buisness trying to sell pain relief. He should be removed I think.
June 10, 2016 at 12:24 pm #133190Reply To: Pain ReliefThank you Sybyllascarlett the poster has been blocked. Clearly, as you appreicate, it is dangerous to take medication that is not prescribed for you. Anyone needing pain relief can always get some from their doctor or pain clinic. this is the safest route.
Going back to the original question though. i have used stick on patches, to good effect. The ones I use are Lignocaine based. i sue them when the pain becomes unbearable even when taking my usual regimen of MST, tramadol, paracetemol and Tegretol. Currently I am suing them for a pain in my neck (all jokes about this to the correct part of the forum please). I have also used them for leg pain as well. They are very effective for me, but extremely cold to put on.Mike

I am heading towards needing stronger pain relief than over the counter pain killers but have an allergy to codeine. Is anyone taking stronger medication that is codeine free? Or any suggestions what I could do, thanksJuly 21, 2016 at 6:07 pm #135255Reply To: Pain ReliefHi,

Not sure if the pain meds I used to take had codeine or not. I now cope with volteral, volteral rub, Lidocaine patches. I am limited on what pills I can take due to stomach issues. find massage very good.
Some people get on well with acupuncture.
sorry cant be more help

May 3, 2018 at 8:52 pm #156347Reply To: Pain ReliefI have DMD type 2 and pain in the hips/legs can be severe. There are only two treatments that seem to work for me… Codeine and, even better is marijuana. Here in Colorado medical marijuana is legal and you can get marijuana high in CBD’s and low in THC so no “high” feeling. On a scale of 1-10, Codeine provides about a 6 and marijuana high in CBD’s is a 9. Extremely effective and only makes you mildly sleepy and very minimal cognitive effects. In my experience, smoking is more effective than CBD patches, lotions or edibles. Hope it helps and if it’s available to you it’s worth a try.
May 4, 2018 at 11:52 am #156360Reply To: Pain ReliefThere are a number of ways to address pain relief and the best option in the UK is to speak to your medical professionals about this. Although there is provision for medically prescribed marijuana in other countries it is currently considered a class B drug in the UK and is illegal. Therefore Muscular Dystrophy UK does not recommend its use.
May 5, 2018 at 11:56 am #156404Reply To: Pain ReliefThere are many different types of pain relief available, and as has been said, the first step should be to consult your GP, who could refer you to the pain clinic. Very often it is found that a cocktail of medications will work very effectively, and that cocktail has to be tuned to each individual. There may be a number of contra indications for some types of medication for you, for example I cannot use voltarol in any form because of bowel surgery some years back. Please do go and see your GP as soon as you can.
In the meantime look at other alternatives. Personally I would vouch for the efficacy of acupuncture which I get when I have my physio to relieve joint pain, secondary to FHSD. I have also used CBD oil to great effect as well prior to be able to get it prescribed for me. Heat is also a life saver for me when nothing else work, and a few pounds for a heat mat is a wise investment. You might want to look here
