    MYOPATHY & AVASCULAR NECROSIS

    Hello,

My son is 10 and has an undiagnosed myopathy affecting his legs and arms mostly. He has to cope with this as well as a new problem with one of his hips, Avascular Necrosis. I was wondering if anyone else has this, wondered if it is common with people who have MD?
The specialists say he is going to need a big operation but are concerned how well his hip will recover with him having myopathy. He would be in a wheelchair for at least 3 months. I worry that the wheelchair could be more permanent.
Also on the off chance wondered if anyone had Metachondromatosis, bit of a long shot.
    Please share your experiences.

    Hi Ketty1,

I have not come across avascular necrosis myself but there may be others on this site who might have – and we are getting new members all the time. The problems created by any major surgery must be common to a lot of people that have the added complication of muscle conditions. It’s good that the specialists you mentioned are aware of the issues and hopefully this will mean recovery is closely monitored. I have not had major surgery but do know how being immobile for even a week can take its toll. My wrist stiffened up when I was admitted with pneumonia, it was not a big concern at the time because I was so ill and therefore not a priority but it has made me aware ever since. All I can say is that with any period of enforced immobility it is good to keep an eye on everything.

I wish your son and you all the best,

    Sarah
