    Life Beyond

Around the forum we will read peoples experiences and stories of their particular MD, so I thought I would be a bit different and tell you about the things I get up to beyond my condition.

My cv of work starts with the Department of Education and ended with the Department of Work and Pensions, via temporary work with the MOD, some oil, research, leisure and motor industries, I was the ‘fixer’ sent in when the previous temp had fubar’d things [don’t know fubar? It is when things are Fudged Up Beyond All Recognition  ]. The most interesting job years were those I spent on the Baronial Estate of the Lord Somerleyton Sir William Crossley KCVO DL, who was Master of the Horse to Her Majesty the Queen. Sometimes formally dressed for occasions at the Hall but sadly probably remembered for the day spent dressed as a belly dancer for the Camel Racing Event at the Estates country park.

A small piece of family folklore started me on a quest to research back into my family tree. I am planning this winter to go over again my research so I can add a family tree to my web site. So far, no previously undiscovered claim to land, goods or titles but have found a murderer, politician, cricketer and rouge! I have been concentrating on my paternal grandmothers ancestors, mostly grunts, working in stone quarries and stocking factories, unlike other families they moved and travelled covering most corners of the country. Anything to make tracking them down that bit more tricky :D

As for activities, well, being a lass with salty sea air on my lungs I studied Maritime Studies, including navigation, knots, sails, rules, concluding with the Merchant Navy Training Board 1-Day Course in Survival. I later did four trips with the Jubilee Sailing Trust onboard their square-rigged tall ships. Not exactly a Hornblower or a Jack Sparrow but exhilarating none the less, you can read extracts from my trip logs at my web site.

Being a little bit of a techno inquisitive I taught myself html language and put together a web site about a musician friend {url=http://www.stcgibb.com]Steve Gibb[/url] becoming his unofficially official site of his musical endeavours.

Off-line [there is such a thing apparently] I keep my fingers busy with stitchery, I have done a range of cross stitch projects from coasters and cards, to pictures some 16 inches square, working on linen and aida cloth with 14, 16 or 18 stitches to the inch. I intend to add some photos of my work to the albums area of my web site.

Book wise I am an avid Terry Pratchett, Agatha Christie, Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwell reader, but my ultimate book is Derric Longden’s Cat Who Came In From The Cold, absolutely hilarious and sorrowful and every cat owner will identify.

I have spent most of my working life in manual jobs and therefore am not prepared for the position i find myself in with regards to office based employment but that can change i suppose if i manage to re-train at some point.
I have recently met a lovely woman through a dating site after my marriage ended a couple of years ago and i am also expecting to be given the keys to a 2 bedroom Housing Association flat any day now, this will allow me to see more of my 2 daughters who mean everything to me.
I don’t have any exciting hobbies but i have a keen interest in History and have a love of the British countryside that i hope to reacquaint myself with in the very near future if the DVLA kindly give me back my driving licence! :o
As far as i am concerned it is the simple pleasures in life that mean the most and i am really trying to focus on building a new relationship with a very smart and intelligent lady and getting to spend as much quality time as possible with my 2 wonderful children. In fact i can hardly wait until Saturday when we will be going out to a local country park for a picnic with the dog, my idea of bliss! :D

    Re: Life Beyond

I left college in 1993 (that makes me feel old) after studying a BTEC in business and finance. I’ve never used that qualification as I’ve never worked!!

For the first few years after college I lived at home until due to an upset with “anti social services” I was put in contact with a lady who helped me move out of my parents and into my own 1 bedroom flat. 13 years on I’m still living on my own only now in a 2 bed flat.

My days are not quiet but neither are they overly busy. I have a team of 8 carers that work various shifts through the week. I’m kept busy with working out rotas, covering shifts and wage payments.

I have a few hobbies I’m currently in the process of making Christmas cards as with a friend we are having a stall at our local Fayre in November. I’m a big telly addict and I love my Yankie shows, TrueBlood, Stargate Universe, Supernatural, Fringe. Are you getting the theme? I love science fiction and fantasy. At least several times a month you’ll find me at my local cinema! I love reading too there’s nothing like a good book, I’m currently reading the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris (tv show TrueBlood is based on these). I also like the author Clive Cussler his books are a bit James Bond like.

I been to Wimbledon 4yrs running it’s amazing to actually see it live rather than on the telly. I got to concerts too last one being Bon Jovi at the O2 stadium.

I also share my home with a lovely 2yr old cat called Louie. I love cats and if I had my way I’d have a load of them!! ;)
