    Immune system

I have lgmd2i. I seem to have a rubbish immune system. As yet, no lung or heart involvement. I have been a sufferer of herpes for years and each time I get it I am really unwell. Every cold or virus leaves me in bed. Anyone know why this is?

Hello and welcome Pips. I am so sorry that you are in such a bad way. Clearly you need to visit your doctor or neurologist to get a more complete explanation, but I am unable to find a direct link between the two. However, you must consider that your MD is a debilitating condition and will most likely lead you to attacks from colds, flu etc. For example I nearly died a couple of years back from COVID as my MD does make me very weak. Herpes is similar, in that on its own it is troublesome, couple with a weakened body it can make matters very worse. I will repeat the same old things you will hear elsewhere about diet, especially vitamins, keeping healthy with exercise , if its possible. Another example is it has been shown that folk who have MD may also have a vitamin B12 shortage , along with others. B12 in turn has been shown to make herpes worse. This may not be the same in your case, but a blood test may clear the water.

Thank you Mike. Is that a case of being low in B12 makes herpes worse?

I have found no papers that cover that but from what I have seen that isa possibility. Interesting article on GB News app about B12 deficiency today. Its worth getting a blood test to find out. I have FHSD and it showed up for me along with a few other attributable symptoms as well. Whether there is a direct link or not you need to know if your MD is limiting your B12, and affecting your bloods in any other way. Faiing that have a chat with your neuroloogist.
