HOUSING- Hm owner with M/D wants to sell 4 bed house, help ?

    Good Morning all,

And can I please take this opportunity to hope your as well as can be and enjoying this lovely weather were having, also thanks for any input or suggestion that I do certainly welcome that can help me in this plight I currently find myself in.

    :ty:

    Here goes.

I am 44 yrs old, I have a diagnogsis of Muscular Dystrophy yet still awaiting step test results to determine clinically which type I do have ( just two more to check apparently ). So three years later after finally getting my benefits where I think they should be, being told my employers can’t find me a role therefore tramatised as medically retired I find myself trying to maintain a 4 bedroom house which I can no longer manage physically, mentally of financially.

Since March 2011 I have been told by my consultant & doctor to stay home & rest till we get a diagnosis, my employer agrees, I have had to fight tooth and nail, in sickness & health constantly engaged in battle with creditors i.e loans, morgage etc as I was on S.S.P for 8 Months (qualification period to enable medical retirement at work) over repayments I racked up. I must say STEPCHANGE have helped yet I still have a timeshare to pay £750 per year maintenance on that I ain’t used due to illness, and I have a 4 Bedroom house that I’ve tried renting parts out to people yet this brings other problems and issues when having to share facilities or just practical or personal scenarios, all of which have just made my mind up that what I personally need is my own place with disabled facilities yet I dont require personal attention just yet and although I feel it most days the fact is I’m just to young for sheltered accomadation ( Minimum 55 Yrs old ) so I just want to sell and try to get some rest and recovery.

House prices thankfully have gone up, I owe my mortgage company approx £170,000 yet my house is valued at £220-£250,000 and feel I could walk away from the debt drama and stress and start some kind of mental and physical recovery yet I at that point become homeless.

I truly don’t know what to do with all the off the above and to get advice I must queue up at 07:45 for a first come first serve system employed by Gravesham ( Gravesend ) council, with whom I requested a home visit and still await, and due to sleep apnoae find it very difficult to make it to citizens advice that time of the morning..

Perhaps I may be overlooking something or misunderstanding something somewhere, but I’ve always worked and can no longer, can’t pay my mortgage, can’t make any improvements and can’t continue like this till I’m 55 yrs old.

    Yours faithfully bewildered

    Col

Thankyou for listening even if you offer no reply, I had to tell somebody :bang:

There is a benefit called Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI). This will pay some or all of the interest on a mortgage, thats the interest only not the capitol. This might be worth looking at, I have put the link below for you.

    Hi Vicky,

    Thanks for the reply.

The benefit you speak of does indeed pay the mortgage interest, I have arranged a monthly figure per month of £400 aprox to my mortgae lender to clear Mortgage arrears generated whilst on SSP. I think my problem lies with finding a way to downsize into a property that I can manage instead of rattling around in a big house on my own.

    Have a fab week :)

    Well done Col,

Looking at this you are so right that you need to make a few changes.

There are many reasons why you need your life to be less complicated and stressful over
the next few years. I can see many ways where you can improve your life.

Mentally, physically and even house price wise this might be the time to put
these changes into place. Inevitably many aspects will get worse over time so it
might be good to make a project of this to sort out some of the problems you
will face in the future before they get any worse.

If finances are that difficult it can only cause pressure on your whole life. The equity you have
can be a vital factor in getting you to the right place in the future. Benefits also might get even more
difficult in future years so consolidation might be a good idea anyway. You do have the chance
to get advice from professionals such as Occupational Therapists and make your living
conditions so much better. Even the sleep Apnea can be at least substantially
Improved with NIV technology such as CPAP.

Sorry you have all these problems. Hope you can find ways to improve things.
