HELP – overnight stay advice needed!

    Hello Everyone

I have the opportunity to represent my CAB in September. The event is at 8pm so I would need to stay over, the venue is Warwick University which is in Coventry.

Firstly, any suggestions on accessible places to stay. Secondly, I am going to need a hoist in the room – does anyone know a hoist hiring company that’s reasonable, preferably West Midlands based?

I would appreciate any info :)

I did a quick google search “disabled accommodation near warwick university” – I don’t know what the reputation of Best Western or Premier Inn has for suitable rooms but there are one or two near the Uni without dragging you into the impossible road system of Coventry.

Yet to find a hoist hire place on my searches.

This Holiday Inn has a room with ceiling track hoist in the room & bathroom Birmingham M6, Jct.7 I have used it many times and was quite impressed.

    What’s the date in September?

It does look good, and it’s even better to get a recommendation from someone who’s used it. 8-)

There are a few other places with ceiling hoists listed on the Ceiling Hoist Users’ Club site, though I think the Birmingham Holiday Inn would indeed be the nearest: http://chuc.org.uk/
Sadly, I don’t think the CHUC are able to keep the listings on their site updated regularly, which is a shame, as it would be great to have an up-to-date online resource for this. We’ve never managed to find anywhere that will hire out a mobile hoist for a sensible amount of time at a reasonable price.

The Holday Inn at KENILWORTH is only around 7 to 10 mins from the University … might be worth winging them an email [mail@hi-kenilworth.com] to see if they have a track hoist room too.

The Holiday Inn website days that there are 5 of their hotels with ceiling hoists and the Birmingham one Vix mentioned is the nearest.

I enquirer about the cost of hiring a hoist for 24hrs… 110 quid

Where did you find that info, sar78? I’d be very interested to see which of their hotels have hoists, but can’t find it on their website.

I googled and came across this info on the Intercontinental Hotels Group

AMG think I’m going to book once I’ve checked a few other things. It says 15 miles/30 mins from the university so hopefully at the times we will be travelling, it won’t be too much of a drag.

    Thank you!
Nowhere near Manchester, sadly. Trying to work out how to manage a visit to eldest daughter up there.

I was going to say the Holiday Inn. I’ve stayed in a few around Birmingham/Warwick and coventry but there rooms are very variable in getting a portable hoist around (like the toilets built into the walls or plumbed in in a way so the legs of the hoist can’t get far enough back. We even found huge differences within room of the same Inn/lodge type chains… makes travelling hap hazard :-/. The hoist user web site would be really good if it was run well and updated…

I think the shower/toilet chairs are good in that respect for rolling over the toilet without having to get a hoist in the bathroom. I hope you have a good trip and get comfy in bed to sleep ok.
