I’m looking to take a holiday in Spain but need to fund taking 2 support workers to assist me. Does anyone know of any useful organisations or charities I can apply to help fund my workers. Any tips will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

this is something I myself have been trying to look into. only charities I have found so far are only for children via varius illness associated charities and for adult with learning and mental disabilities.
Am working myself up to asking my OT again about direct payments. My mum who is my carer doesn’t drive and I dont think I would want to attempt hiring a suitable adapted car abroad. and to give my mum a bit of a rest I would need at lest one carer/driver to drive us about and lug about me gear. espeically the airplane part that freeks mumsy out.
the fact that I work will probably go against me when asking for funding help.
what I have found online

Is that what you are hoping to get Cat? Do you have a named Social Worker? They would be the person to ask about this or you could contact your local Adult Social Care Services about this. I was able to get one of these payments but this is going back two or three years. Every authority has its own policy but it is worth enquiring about.

how much, relistacally should I ask for. have no idea what PAs are actually paid.
Do I simply ask for help with the PAs travel and accomadation. and would the helper I ask need to be a PA by occupation.April 4, 2011 at 3:56 pm #79858Re: Funding a holiday with supporthow much, relistacally should I ask for. have no idea what PAs are actually paid.

I pay £8 an hour weekdays with a different rate for sleep shifts and weekend hours. The flights and accommodation were down to me to pay but the extra funding for assistance was funded as a one-off direct payment by Social Services.
Cat, do you receive any funding for personal care at the moment, I can’t remember if you’ve already said somewhere?

no, was told that I couldnt get any as I live at home with mum. and where as we manage most of the time, things like going on holiday is a big struggle. and I want to experience going on holiday before my health gets any worse. and to be honest I really need something to look forward too.
April 4, 2011 at 7:32 pm #79861Re: Funding a holiday with supportI lived at home with my parents and received Direct Payments for 6 yrs before I moved out. It was a relatively small care package compared to what I have now but meant I got help while Mum and Dad were at work and when I wanted to go out on there own. I guess different authorities have different policies but the decision not to fund because you live at home seems so unfair. I understand what you are saying about going places while you are more mobile/able – I would start by contacting Adult Social Care Services in your area. Or maybe there is a disability organisation local to you that might be able to help? I hope you manage to get somewhere.
