Female 51 yrs old just Diagnosed with Beckers Constant Pain

Hi, I have just been diagnosed with Beckers and find it difficult to get any information about Women with Beckers. Most of the info I find pertains to Males with symptoms, and females as the carrier. My Neurologist told me that it is rare to find a female with Beckers but I am living proof. I have had the Genetics Blood Test and the Muscle Biopsy which confirmed the diagnosis.
What I want to know is if anyone has had success with Pain Relief. I suffer from severe constant pain in the legs which hasn’t responded to Eplim, Endep or Allegron. So now I am on Cymbalta, which gave me some paid relief to begin with but now a few weeks into treatment it has started to wear off. I am sick of the pain, and my life surrounded and run by pain.
I am so grateful that if I had to have MD that I have Beckers and not Duchene, but the pain is making my life hell, to the extent as to where I am unable to work, or function well.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks Wendy

Hello Wendy and welcome to our corner. Feel free to browse around, ask questions, have a ventingmoa or a bit of a giggle, we have grown some broad comfy shoulders and are happy to help. We also would love to hear about your experiences [good and bad]

I doubt you are alone in your situ, every person with MD seems to have a varient that is unique to them, makes this disease all the more infuriating. We have some occasional readers who also have Becker but cannot think off the top of my head if any of them are female.

There are a couple of threads which may interest you Too Much Pain and also Alternative To Pain Relief

Have you come across our MD Links service? The idea of this service is to put people directly in touch with each other who have the same condition, or are struggling with the same circumstances. MD links

Thank you for your response, it is always nice to know that there are others out there who know what it is like and not just think that you either make it up or just whinge.

Every one here can relate to your feelings as if others think you are over exaggerating or moaning about your situation. We all have tales of feeling disbelieved, but you are far from on your own. As much as I wuld love a cure, if pain could be measured like they do for blood pressure or sugar etc then we could get them right between the eyes with quantifiable proof we are in varying degrees of agony!

Hi Wendi. I am a great believer in complementary therapies and love the TV programmer Food Hospital. they get some fantastic results which is amazing. I was wondering if a bit of research into food may be helpful. Also have you ever tried meditation? There is something called Mindful Meditation which reports to help with pain. There are other complementary therapies which may help too. Feel free to PM me if you would like some ideas.
I hope you find something that works for you and let us know if you do as it may help someone else. On the other hand you may think I’m a bit mad and if so just ignore me!!!
    Best wishes
    Val
