    Equipment from health OT

If you get a piece of equipment from health OT delivered to home….in this instance a wombat chair….would you expect it to be new? It’s very much moulded to someone else’s back and bottom!

I don’t know what a wombat chair is but when I have equipment its not new, its come out of stores. Even my ceiling track hoist has been second hand in the past!

It’s a functional chair for sitting up at the table, doing home work and eating and stuff. I don’t mind second hand but when things are moulded to someone else’s body, that I do mind! :? It’s also come with out and leg or thoracic supports so not sure why they sent it as that’s exactly the stuff we need.

This doesn’t surprise me that parts are missing.

OT said that stores said they don’t give new stock out due to cost and that it had been contaminated! Well that’s ok then…but what about the bum and head dents in it! Hampshire have shed loads of dosh…tight!

Might be you’ll need to brush up some nagging skills .. keep reminding the OT that however good the item is the present bumps and dents are painful, awkward and prevent you from gaining the excellence of the piece of equipment.

Hi, i think the piece of equipment is UNACCEPTABLE for its potential use. You do need to keep ringing until you get what you NEED..dont take NO for an answer, they are just fobbing you off for the convenience of themselfs and th NHS. If you dont make WAVES and tell them this is NOGOOD for you and is not MEETING YOUR NEEDS!! Then they will just accept what they are doing! Good luck with that but get onto your OT as soon as possible. All the best. Sandra mum of 20 year old son with duchanne.

I could not say a bad word about my O.T. She is always available to me by phone unless away & even then she replies or rings the day she’s back. She has helped with lots of adjustments & equipment, including arranging the wheelchair service to visit & supply the chariot. In fact, it’s only the chariot & electric rising/reclining chair that was supplied to me that have not been new. Obviously the chair was cleaned very well before being delivered but, later in the evening of the day it arrived I noticed a small cigarette burn, quite low on the inside of the right arm, It’s not noticeable to anybody not sitting in the chair & doesn’t affect it’s function so I just made the O.T. aware of it the next day. I haven’t smoked for six years & don’t want the blame. Oh and one other thing I would change if I had a choice but, again, doesn’t alter it’s function, the colour. It’s lime green :o and hideous ! First purchase day after was throws, dark coloured throws. Who has a living room to match this chair ?

I think I am one of the lucky ones with my O.T. & wheelchair service, especially having heard how some of you have had your struggles.
