    dmd and car seats

hi everyone, i am new here, my son harvey was diagnosed 1 yr ago with DMD, i was pondering the other day, he has a booster seat with a back on and i was wondering whether he may need a more specialised car seat? due to the lower muscle tone etc i have seen some that swivel to face you to ease tranfers, does anyone know how you go about getting one, for example can you get help with the cost etc
    thanks

    Hi Kerry

Do you mean a transfer board to help getting from car to wheelchair and such like? I recently started using the Beasy Transfer Board specifically for getting in/out cars. There is a swiveling seat pad that slides across the board, they are expensive £350+ But I managed to flutter my eyes at down the phone during my annual 3 minute occ health call and they found one for me to have a loan of.

Or were you thinking of a more supporting chair support for Harvey to use in the car?

yes i was wondering more about a more supportive car seat for him to sit in when he is in the car, luckily he is still mobile so able to get in and out the car with help, just worry that he wouldnt be adequaltely supporeted if god forbid we ever have an accident?

I don’t have personal experience with DMD, I imagine a chat with an Occupational Therapist might help you.

    Have you seen this webpage

    http://www.livingmadeeasy.org.uk/children/car-seats-_-swivel-%26-tilting-3505-p/

just found this while wondering about the web. looks like a pretty good sight as it gives advice on a good range of goods for kids, they dont sell the items themselves but they can put you intouch with the poeple that do.
