Hi
I am looking for advice.I have received my DLA form through for renewal. Its due to run out in early October. Currently my condition appears to be progressing as I am having problems with walking now, no strength in my arms and increased choking to name a few issues. Just started physio. Physio has advised me to chase up the appt in Newcastle which is not likely to be before September as to have MRI on same day and there is a waiting list for it. I want to mention the current difficulties but as neuro not aware i am worried if they are asked for medical report they wont mention it. I dont have time to leave it until I go as then I may lose my DLA in between times. Been turned down for the care component despite my family now having to do a lot more for me. Worried what will happen with the review next year.
Any advice would be welcomed
Many thanks

You [as in you and maybe someone from CAB] could always complete the form with how things are today. Then after you have had your Newcastle meeting, MRI and whatever else you can always write to DLA informing them of a change in your circumstances that they need to be aware of. You do not have to wait for DLA to contact you to review your situ.
Are you in contact with one of MDC’s Regional Care Advisor, I would highly recommend you do as they are super experienced in how to present MD cases and can support you through out the process. You can find contact details for them RCA – contact details
Past experience has told me, be prepared to battle especially for the care component, again use the CAB or the MDC Care Advisor.
Hang on there – we are a persistent bunch, we will win in the end

This is very important we seem to go down other routes, as the CAB are ofter overlooked. Always try to get to your CAB for matters like benefits and financial problems. Oh yeah if anyone is wondering what CAB is its the CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU….

Excellent points on DLA.
This is such a worrying thing thast you do not have documentation that proves or demonstrates
your deteriorating situation. Any examination or assessment might not take into account your
full situation.Sadly even when youy do get the medico s report it often does not go as far as you would wish. With our
rare conditions they are often loath to put in writing the full situation and tend to gloss things over
as they are often not sure and are waitng to see how things pan out.I would say the DLA forms are very long and there is ample opportunity to keep hammering home
the points you want, especially that you have an incurable, progressive, degenerative condition.AMG is so right. The last time the Regionaql Care advisor, helped me with the form and later when an
appeal was necessary she wrote a letter bringing all the correct points together. They are experts in MD after all.

June 8, 2012 at 11:54 am #85644Re: DLALast time my DLA was up for renewal I referred back to my original application, as this was done with the help of the CAB and went to appeal so I had copies of my form and all correspondence. If you have a copy of your last successful application it may help you fill in the new form. I went over each question and if my answer last time still described my current situation I copied it, and if I felt I’d got worse I ended the answer with some thing like “and this has got worse since my last DLA award”
I didn’t get advice on this so not sure it’s the best way to go about it, I just tried to make it clear that my MD doesn’t get better – only worse. After I’d sent the form I got phone call from someone at the DWP who asked me a few more questions including ones about my care needs, as I hadn’t previously been awarded the care component, just mobility.
It was successful and I was also awarded low rate care, both indefinitely.
I remember how awful the whole process was, first time round I had to be persuaded to go to the appeal as I felt like giving up on it. An indefinite award was such a relief, only now I’ll have to go through it all again when it changes to PIP
