    DLA Review

Well my fears came true got my letter from DWP today that my higher rate DLA is being reviewed. My Consultant and GP have been asked to provide up to date medical reports. My renewal date is November but didnt think I would be reviewed until next year when they start looking at everyone. My form on this occasion mentioned my problems in more detail as I have progressed this year. I have a very supportive GP and I am thinking of going to see her before she completes the form so she can give them the best info possible. I know my GP and my specialist know I have issues but do they really get all the little things you put on the forms about problems with doing date to date activities. I am now worried what is going to happen.

I dont have a confirmed diagnosis likely many people on here and have changed specialist so wonder if that is why.

Should I see my GP about the report or does that look desperate. Please keep your fingers crossed.

    Thanks
    Gill

It does sound a good idea to get the best input from the doctor especially if you get on well with them.

Do not think the lack of exact diagnosis will be a problem. This is not at all uncommon for MD or
many other rare conditions. your medical file will be full of all the correct details similar to people
who do have full diagnosis. Make sure you write out the full range of your problems so that they
get the overall picture. It is not your fault you have not been diagnosed.

Do not forget DLA is simply about the way your disability affects you. Just make sure they
    get those oints in full.

This is key, you have to imagine yourself writing a flow chart to give someone instructions to do things eactly how you do. I spent ages figuring out that I could do things with my right hand [like push up from a chair] but cannot with my left hand. We are so used to doing things our own way, that becomes our normal and can be easily forgotten when completing a form or questionaire.

Just remember the reader of your form knows absolutely nothing about any disability, details are key, be specific and repeat yourself in all the different explanation boxes.

hi miracle. first of all stop panicking. on your dla review forms just explain in as much detail as possible and dont forget to list your consultants and drs. it may also be a good idea to get in touch with your local md officer. the md officers are an absolute god send and will go with you through the form. just remember that when you first went on dla, you were probably a bit ore able bodied than you are now. so list everything that has changed, for e.g you may have been able to hold a cup with one hand but you now need to use two.
please remember there are resources out there that can and will help you. ;)

    HI

Found this on DWP pages…thought you all might like a look, makes me wonder why people with muscle disease get reviewed as the guidance on assessing the form clearly said they dont get better and their care needs increase.

I decided to make the GP appt re my review as I think she wont mind and will be better placed to complete it if she hears it from me rather than guessing. I am trying not to worry about the review as I have progressed and that is clearly evident on the info I submitted so fingers crossed common sense prevails.

    Cheers

Before you send your form away, take a copy, keep it for reference next time.

I think the key thing to keep in mind is to answer the questions for when you are having a bad day and not when you are having a good day.

It’s very soul destroying since as disabled people we tend to focus on our abilities rather than our disabilities. These forms however are about box ticking. So if you can raise your arm high enough (for example) to put on a hat when you have had 8 hours sleep and are stretched to feel particularly flexible… answer it for when you have just finished hauling yourself out of a chair :)

I am not advocating lying here in any way, shape or form… But if you are able to do something 1 or 2 times out of 10 and the other 8 times you would be far too tired. The answer should be No, I can’t.

Mindpower can I ask what your condition is. Some of your comments are far from ideal.

I was asking about DLA review which you clearly dont know anything about. I am trying to maintain the benefits I have in place already to assist me with my day to day living which this review puts in jeopardy.

Counselling may help with the emotional part of living with MD but it is not offered to all – I certainly didnt mention it on my post. Treating your condition so it gets better !!! Think you will find NMD doesnt get better, it stays the same or more often gets worse. If only it were that simple :-(
