Disease that may manifest itself in people older than age of 50
In this post, I provide a brief description of the common clinical form of the symptomatic period of IBM for those who fell ill with this disease due to ignorance of its causes. I expect that the average patient can hardly get his exact diagnosis from GP, remaining content with the doctor’s vague words about something like general fatigue syndrome and other nonsense.
After a latent period of illness (which can last up to 20 years), the disease begins to reveal itself as a vague internal lesion of the foot, which then (possibly over a period of up to 10 years) spreads through the muscles (often along one side of the body) to the arms. As a result, a patient suffering from IBM becomes bedridden. You can see how a patient with IBM looks to an external observer, for example, on https://cureibm.org/diagnosis/symptoms/ .
Depending on the details of the initial infection, there may be other forms of IBM. For example, in one of them, the damage to the legs may be insignificant, so that after lying down for six months, the patient could walk. At the same time, his right hand has remained completely paralyzed.
