    CMT and eye laser surgery

    Hi there,

My name is Amanda and I’ve just joined the site. I was diagnosed with Peroneal Muscular Atrophy when I was 2. I’m now late 40’s.

I’m due to have my eyes lasered on friday as I find trying to walk in glasses impossible! Makes me feel sick and knock me off balance even more. I was wondering if anyone else has had this procedure and if everything is ok?

Thanks in advance for any tips or comments.

    Amanda

    Good luck with your surgery.

My fit-as-a-flea cousin had laser eye surgery [she got fed up of glases] and sailed through no problems, issues or anything and raves about how excellent it all went.

I don’t know of anyone with MD who has had it. I do hope it resolves your balance. I need to get my eyes rechecked, it is on my to do next year list, it is the exorbitant glasses costs that is making me drag my heels.

Let us know how you get on :)

    Hi,

OK, today should have been my treatment day! After routine scans and tests the surgeon said he thought that laser treatment would cause too many problems with my disability for him to continue. After a long and very convincing consultation we came to the conclusion that laser treatment wasnt for me! I thought I’d be really disappointed but I was actually relieved. I had a gut feeling I shouldnt do it but put it down to nerves.

So for now I remain a very happy speccy four eyes! :o)
