    Cherry Active Concentrate

Hi all! I’m the mother of a 17 month old boy diagnosed with DMD earlier this year. I was thinking of trying something. A colleague was talking about going to the gym and mentioned she takes cherryactive concentrate because it’s great for muscle recovery after exertion. I looked it up and it seems to be true. I called up the company and they worked out what dosage to give my son. It’s basically just concentrated cherry juice so no harm in trying. Anyone else thought of this? Does it help at all? I notice my muscles are much less achy when I take it after the gym.

Are you thinking this may elevate symptoms or help make muscles stronger?

I’m just thinking that it’s supposed to help muscle recover after exertion, maybe it can help my son protect his muscles a little before the damage begins. I just don’t know if anyone else is trying it? The company I called had nevre had an enquiry like mine before, and there’s nothing online.

Just ordered some in capsule form because it says it assists with sleeping difficulties too. Try anything once ;-)

Surely our muscles and a gym fit person’s muscles are like comparing chalk and cheese? I can’t speak for other variants of Muscular Dystrophy, but my problem is insufficient Dystrophin produced in my muscle cells. No amount of health drink can alter that fact.

I’d try it if it did have concentrated Dystrophin….

I think if it works, brilliant, but the only thing to slow down the progress is the quite boring ‘exercise’ regime. Guess I’m getting cynical in my old age.

    What about second breakfast?

I am sceptical as to the value of exercise personally. I punished myself three times a week for a year in the swimming pool, all i ever got was muscle cramps and a growing sense of frustration. The pool closing down recently was the best news i’ve had in a while! ;)

Ooo, you are awful Ronald….. But I agree. I’ve tried more or less everything and the only thing that helps is walking very little with regular rests and laying in bed a lot in an attempt to reduce fatigue, pain and muscle spasms.
My natural tendancy is to be optomistic and try everything once but from experience when I saw this post I did think I wanted to post “save your money or spend it on something you’ll enjoy”. Anyway, I took cherry active concentrate for a month. It did nothing that I can detect. So I would say spend your money on something proven or that you’d enjoy.
    Cheers,
    Michael

I agree with your sentiment Michael, there is always the danger of giving oneself false hope. I have never done much to “cure” myself, apart from the swimming fiasco that is.

We are at such varying degrees of advancement with regards to our MD, i seem to be progressing very slowly indeed. All the other Becker MD people i have met are alot worse off than me, i really have little to moan about by comparison.

As an example, it took me 3 hours to wash my Motability car this afternoon, i am now feeling stiff and sore all over, i shall probably have to ask the painter to haul me out of bed tomorrow! (housing association maintenance calling first thing in the morning) But at least i was able to save myself a fiver and wash the damned thing myself. (a monthly penance)

    All the best

Spicy rum, I enjoy & prefer spicy rum to cherry concentrate & that’s what I spent the money on instead when the cherry pills ran out  . Spicy rum & ginger beer is my Spurs winning celebratory drink. So, as you can imagine I don’t drink it a lot :D .

I think the capsules will do you very little good, if any and are very unlikely to help you sleep unfortunately. Have you tried Nytal or Nytal herbal. You can get these from any chemist without a prescription.
Hope they help if you give them a go.

    Hello Saira,

I tried the cherry capsules myself for one month & didn’t notice anything different. They certainly didn’t help me sleep which is what I was hoping for :( . So, I wouldn’t recommend them I’m afraid.
