Can you get creative? Let’s make Ranks!!!

So, further to the poll a while ago, 92% of those who voted opted in favour of a personalised ranking system for your forum!

What am I on about, some of you may ask – good question! At the moment, in each post below your username and on your profile you will see a little badge, or tiny banner. Most of you will see ‘registered user’ – boring huh?! I proposed a new system whereby new ranks will be assigned, and ranks will change upon new post-count achievements. For example:

    0-4 = Newly Registered User
    5-19 = Registered User
    19-39 = Regular User
    40-99 = …
    100-200 = …

Basically, as you keep posting, your rank will change to represent how frequently you post on the forum.

It doesn’t have to stop here – competition winners can get custom badges! If someone is recognised for being particularly helpful or friendly, this could also earn you a badge.

What am I posting for? I figured some of you may want some input – and I always love your input! After all, it’s your forum  We need to think up new badge/status names – which are better than egg, newbie, hatchling, juvenile, teen, adult, elderly dinosaur, relic etc! Maybe something a bit more MD related?

Let me know what you think :)

    This is exciting stuff.

Just what we wanted. Many thanks.

Now what terms would denote seniority or excellence in
    an MD flavoured world?

Hi! I have seen this sort of thing on other online forums which I have joined, personally I don’t like them unless they are of a humorous note.
Ranking can make those who are less prolific posters feel inferior and those who can’t help but post ( verbal diarrhoea ) , some if us don’t need anything more to feel inferior about. :nono:
The point I’m making is that it’s quality not quantity that matters and just taking part even more! :D

Hi! I was referring to the problems on other sites with ranking systems! encouraging posting for tge sake of it, but I know people on here have much more important things to worry about!
I realise I’m in the minority but I just don’t like ranking systems.

Was giving this some thought around 3am and wondered if we went with something like

    0-10 Still new here
    11 – 50 Bit of a newbie
    51-100 Frequent visitor
    101-500 Regular Poster
    501-1000 Often drops in
    1001-3000 Prmanent resident
3001+ too much to say! [lol]

And looking at the number next to the name. 3350 plus AMG.

The highest accolade we can award !

can sort of see Shellybears point.. I can see the rank system as a bit of fun but I often don’t join in on webforums where a large group or regular with huge visitor or post miles, as even online it is hard for a newby to join in in an established network of forum buddies. can see how it could put some off. think it should be optional for people to show the rank system nickname beside their post counter so they can take part or not.

Great! I was thinking optional too!

I’m not a wimp! But if you’ve been on forums like say ‘The Purse Forum’ it’s like the Devil wears Prada!!

I’m sure that we all won’t be anything like those B******’*! Only the trolls to worry about?

but if you do have ranking I guess I could always rise to the challenge and post more about my very very rare condition

    Only joking! :D

I see your point Shellybear and have experienced it myself on other forums. I think a lot of the time it depends on the forum and how many people use it, but here you see very few posts for the sake of it. I like the humourous idea :)

Catatude, good thinking about the ‘taking part’, but this isn ‘t really anything to partake in – it’s just a rank. It will not be there to promote competition. If someone wanted to opt out, I could give members a blank rank.

:new: I’m new to this site (only found out last night that we have edmd in the family). So if this isnt the place for my dark humor say so and I’ll tone it down. But until then, heres my view on ranking
    HOW ABOUT REVERSE ORDER RANKING?
    E.G.
1-10 has a real life outside the internet
10-50 needs to get out more
    50-100 get a life
100-300 lives on pot noodles and home delivery pizza
500+ has thousands of friends on facebook, but none in real life

dspeat – I think I too closely resemble that list, although maybe the numbers could be higher.

:waving: Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear your family had has the edmd news, early days and baby steps with coming to terms with the potential effects, we are here and happy to help or just listen. Pootle around the board, we are a pretty mad diverse bunch round these parts – my humour gear has slipped a cog because of something that has happened in real life, but I can be pretty dark, sarcastic and whitty when the muse takes me.

I’ve recently started being involved in fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and if I start posting on the forum can I have a badge for being a grumpy old git? :bang:

On a more serious note I don’t like the idea of a badge for the amount of times you have posted because some of them may be only of interest to you but nobody else is interested in. But I could suggest stealing a idea from another forum I used to use where they had a Thank You button which was listed on there posts and profile sent by people they had given information or helped. :ty:

I don’t post very often and can go months without visiting the forum. I wouldn’t consider myself a newbie or a regular. part timer is probably too much to describe my status. I’m not sure how many posts I’ve got but I know I’ve had some deep and meaningful conversations with a lot of people on here. I gotta agree with Shelly on quality vs quantity.
