    Blue Badge applications/renewals

As well as moderating on here I volunteer as a social policy researcher. Hope you don’t mind me picking your brains…

I’m doing some research into blue badge application/ renewal processes and I’d be interested to hear about how it’s done in different authorities. I’d like to hear about both good and bad experiences. Feel free to send me a private message if you’d rather share that way. Thanks in advance.

Hertfordshire Blue Badge application was painless, very simple and well organised.

Reminders when an existing badge expires are not given. I forgot to check and needed to wait a couple of extra weeks on the standard three to receive the new one. We remembered in time for my Mother-in-Law and the new one arrived very quickly.

Up here in Lancashire it has been reasonably painless, if you have access to a computer. If not a trip to a library or similar is required. I applied early,to ensure there was no gap, and the renewed badge turned up in about ten days. Cost is £10, which, to some extent , I accept, but adds another layer to the application process which i feel those who are not computer literate, will find makes the task much harder.
Still is a bit of a worry each time for me, making sure I have the correct documentation, and indeed if it will be approved. Considering that there is NO enforcement of Blue badge abuse up here, I suppose I should not be worried, but like all of these things we have to go through, you can never be sure.

Thank you for your responses. From this and from responses on Facebook I am seeing variation across issuing authorities despite there being a central government portal.

Would anyone have any objections to me using these comments if I keep them anonymised? I will only use relevant info.

Mine straightforward and fairly fast return.

Just like to highlight using the official gov portal and not a broker or online company.
