    Access To Work

Sorry if this has already been covered.

I have MD, Scoliosis, breathing problems and am finding it increasingly difficult getting about at work. So I decided that it was time to have a powered chair just for work.

So I phoned the Job centre plus access to work people, who said that I would need to be accessed.
So according to them I’ve to go the my GP who’s has to refer me to the district nurse, who the refers me to the NHS wheelchair service, who will decide what my needs are (can’t be guaranteed a power chair).
I then have to get a risk assessment at work. Access at work then has come out and review me and my workplace, The employer then has to agree to fund the first £1000. and this could take a minimum of 6 months.

Has anyone else applied for a power chair via access to work and is it really this hard.

Finaly I got into answer this!!!!

Yes Access to Work can help you find a chair. I did this 5 years ago. I worked for the NHS they gave me some money and Access To Work also helped with funding so it can be done. If you didnt have a chair you would not be able to work. Make sure its a rise and recline to be able to access desks etc x

    hi Helen

Do you know what models rise and recline?

I was looking at a chair called Micro Mombo by Drive medical, as I thought it was small enough to give me plenty of room to turn in the offices small kitchen/eating area. its similar to the chair on my scooter that I fnd comfy.

I was considering paying it myself but cant get companies to come and demo even if they offer free home demos on their web pages. One company was meant to come out on friday but demanded that I pay the full amount before they came out.

Think I’d say “That’s fine, I’ll just take my expendable disposable income elsewhere” :|
