Windows 8.1……….Starty is back!…….
Microsoft have released the new update to their upgrade on their operating system.
Windows 8 came out a last year with a very different look and feel. They have now
released 8.1 which continues the transition to a system that operates across all
devices and is optimised for touchscreens. After howls of protest they have brought
back a few favourites such as the “start button”.It has exciting new ways to access more and more things from resizeable and personalised
“Tiles” that have bewildering numbers of options. When you get used to doing this with swipes
and gestures on a touchscreen I am sure it will be fine but on a laptop you are just not familiar
with it and it does not seem as intuitive as the IOS system.Myself and most others go straight for the other old favourite the bottom left hand link to
go straight to your familiar old desktop layout.One exciting thing is that as part of the installation to the new system you are enrolled in
Sky Drive the Microsoft Cloud Storage facility. Good actually, had been meaning to do this
for ages and with 7 Gb of free space this is better than Dropbox and others."Even if you are not paranoid, it does not mean they are not out to get you!".

Whenever I have to sort anything on BroInLaw’s laptop it takes hours and a screen full go google searches, plus a lot of language.

Me too, I want to smash the screen when I have to use it on my Mum’s laptop

Re: Windows 8.1……….Starty is back!…….I will admit it has been many years since I have done any serious amount of work on a Windows based system but I am the tech when it comes to BroInLaw’s and Sisters Laptops. BroInlaw’s is W8, and his laptops are always the problem ones [“It does stuff all by itself’ uh-huh].
At the mo I am trying to upload itunes library – nightmare – cannot even drop’n’drag files into a folder. “Somehow” all the itunes folders on the laptop have disappeared, I have all his folders on an external hard drive from when we swapped to his new machine. My mission this weekend is to google answers on my trusted 2008 Mac to sort out the mess of the 2013 Windows!

I hate the old start button coming back though…

Re: Windows 8.1……….Starty is back!…….I wil apologise in advance Cassini .. I am trying to transfer folders and files from a USB stick into a folder on Win8 and the $%£& thing won’t let me … driving me insane!!!
Weekend plan is the win* pappy, and TWO Mac’s running google searches to try and get to the bottom of what should be a straight forward drop n drag situ .. maddening
You might get a screaming email from me if I am about to throw it and myself out the window :lol

Re: Windows 8.1……….Starty is back!…….That’s really strange…I must say it took me a whole 10 minutes to try and figure out how to stop the start key from bringing up the old school start menu!
Does it give you an error code or message?? If you need any help just lemme knw

By process of illumination I got it sorted …. it was hiding the files so iTunes would not find them
