    Salty Tips…..

Had a two hour visit form the Speech and Language Therapist.

Among all sorts of stuff she was full of helpful advice.

Will post a few here when I get the energy to do so.

Tablets can be easier to take if you put them in a teaspoon of thick custard or yoghurt.

Many tablets are not safe to crush she says.

Yes, no tablet should be crushed or chewed.

Rest well, you had an exhausting day yesterday taking in all that information and telling her your issues. Medical appointments are so physically and mentally exhausting because we are all trying to be concise yet descriptive and it takes effort to do anything out of our usual managed routine.

That sums it up perfectly. Cannot believed how wiped out I am after the longest conversation I have had
in two years. Even my legs ache, yet not been out for four days.

Sit upright when eating and drinking and remain so for 30 minutes afterwards.

Ensure your mouth and teeth are clean.

Infected saliva can cause chest infections.

Be aware that fatigue and medication can affect your swallow. It is
important that when you are eating when you feel less tired as the muscles you
use during swallowing work more efficiently then.

    ……and a biggie :-

Strangely the SALT people really do not like salt!

Salt does all sorts of bad things to muscles. Lay off it as much as you can.

She caught me with three salt pots in my lounge. I promised faithfully.

Biannual?! Really?! Yikes! I’d not last a month without a cone of chips!

Couldn’t agree more about the fatigue and medication…I’ve taken meds in my sleep before and ended up coughing them up over the other side of the room – that didn’t wake me up either!

Salty phoned up today to see how I was (very nice).

She particularly mentioned me to pay attention to this tip.
