Hello all, I’m new on here, have Limb girdle dystrophy & am currently struggling with transfers and comfort in a new bed I’ve been supplied – the Baltic Independent electronic profiling bed with a foam pressure relieving mattress. I previously used an Adjustamatic divan bed with pocket sprung mattress and foam topper, it rises from lying to sitting and was raised on high blocks which I independently transferred into & out from. I find I’m unable to transfer into the new bed even tho it rises and lowers to a lower height than my old bed. I am told an electronic leg lifter cannot be attached to the bed & unfort I struggle to use the ‘manual’ leg lifter stick. I am struggling with neck, shoulder and very bad back pain and severe lack of sleep on the foam mattress even tho it’s pressure relieving and without a special heel cushion on top, my right heel starts to have a ‘burning’ pain against the mattress.
Would love to hear what you find comfortable and any equipment etc that helps you get your legs into bed independently please, thank youDecember 13, 2015 at 10:30 pm #119404Reply To: Profiling BedHi, I have a Baltic turning bed and to get a mattress topper to on top of the pressure relieving mattress. I don’t have the same issues with leg lifting as I have PAs to help me into bed.
I have exactly the same right heel problem. I had an open sore for years until a nurse introduced me to a gel heel cushion. I wore it for a week or so which was enough to help my heel heal and now I have my knees supported by rolled up blankets and my heels on a rolled up towel with silky soft cushion. If the troublesome heel feels like it is heading that way again I make sure I have a few nights of my heel hanging over the edge of the towel/cushion combo. These things evolve all the time.

Have you put a soft or a particular topper on top of the pressure relieving mattress please?
I am sufferering from pain of the mattress & lack of sleep and am looking to try & get as much comfort as I can.
For my heel I tried a foam boot the other night on right foot only but it threw my hips out a bit so wasn’t good. I’ve tried a gel heel pad in my sock before but that didn’t help relieve pain unfort. Someone has also mentioned this on amazon, not sure if you’ve seen these?…Thanks again
December 14, 2015 at 7:14 pm #119434Reply To: Profiling BedI have the same bed as Sarah. I sleep slightly sitting up and with my feet up too, my ankles hurt on both feet so i use heat packs, unheated, to rest them on which works. Just got myself one of these Cervical Pillow for my head and neck, it works wonders, stopped the headaches i was getting from stress on my neck.
December 14, 2015 at 7:45 pm #119435Reply To: Profiling BedGreat thanks Vicki. That’s a good idea for your ankles. I’ve a Theraflex gel heat pack and reckon that my heel on that might help as another option too.
I’m just ordering the Cervical Pillow from Amazon thank youI’ve just got a Baltic Independent Bed from Centrobed and am struggling to get my legs in which I was able to do independently on my old Adjustamatic bed. I think it’s as I’m struggling with the foam mattress. Do you have a particular mattress or topper please?
