    Possible fundraising idea…

    Hi guys,

Most of you probably don’t know me. I made a post last week in the Introductions area.

I have recently written and published a novel called “The Camel Trail”, and one of the subplots of it is the desire for a young Duchenne-suffering boy to walk The Camel Trail in Cornwall, from Padstow to Bodmin. (DMD runs in my family.)

A friend recently suggested we actually go and walk the Trail as a fundraising event for MDC – and I think it’s a wonderful idea! But I’m not sure about the ins-and-outs of how to go about it. Does anyone have any clues?

I wanted to find out just what would be involved before I actually approach MDC about it. But I’m guessing it’d be one heck of a lot of work to organise something like that?

The Camel Trail is an old disused and resurfaced railway line. It’s flat and smooth and suitable for wheelchair access (which is great because another friend of mine wishes to come along).

What I would love is if we could gather up hundreds of people to walk it (each raising money for MDC), but at a guess it’s probably going to be virtually impossible to shut it down for us so we could walk it – it’s open to walkers, cyclists and horse riders… I just wonder if it’s too much to ask? :?

    Hi Peter

Do you think the relevant council would be a good place to start? Even if you are unsure at this stage, the fundraising section of the MDC might be worth a look or get in touch with the local fundraising contact? I met my region’s contact last month, she seemed really approachable.

Many thanks, guys :D. I’ll look up Cornwall’s local council and speak to them and I’ll find out who the local MDC fundraising contact is. Thanks!

Claire, I wasn’t sure if advertising the book on here was allowed lol. I’ll PM you the link :). And as for helping with the fundraising, that would be fantastic! I’m based in Leeds at the minute so nowhere actually near Cornwall. I’ll message you now :)

Hi Claire, it’s a forum function thing that your sent messages remain in your Outbox until I log in a then the message is delivered to me. Don’t worry, I just got it :)

Glad the book sounds interesting to you! I’ve had some good reviews for it so far. Although I will warn anyone with MD or DMD connections, that the book is a little on the sad side. But ultimately redeeming. I.e., it’s sad but has a nice ending… I hope!

Most people that have read it told me it made them cry

I will let you know if I can figure anything out about doing the actual walk of the Camel Trail :D
