    New FSH research

I’ve just published a new story about FSH. Let me know what you think!

I think I have sort of got my head round it. I’m a tad confused between the D4Z4 and DUX4 .. D4Z4 is the mass repeated gene in a non-fsh person …. but the under-repeated D4Z4 migrates/mutates/doesn’t alter resulting in the DUX4 bit over producing the long protein rather than the short version.

Great leap forward in the understanding of the complexities of FSH.

Oh its so complicated but you’ve done well AMGmod!

D4Z4 is the name given to the repetitive section of DNA that is changed in people with FSH. This piece of DNA contains the DUX4 gene repeated many times, but the number of times it is repeated is reduced in people with FSH. This causes the way that the DUX4 gene is read to be altered – in people not affected by FSH a shortened version of the protein is made from the DUX4 gene, but in people with FSH they produce the full-length version which is toxic. Hope that helps!
