    Low gear bikes

My 10 year old grandson has recently been diagnosed with MD. He lives in St Ives Cambridge and has been advised not to use a scooter, but to try a low gear bike. Any suggestions, advice or help would be much appreciated. He has been to a centre in Milton and Peterborough and been on a trike with his Dad, but cannot find anything suitable for just himself. Help please? Many thanks Barbara

Hello and welcome. It certainly sounds like a job for a specialist bike builder. I am sure that they could create one for him using the appropriate gearing. You mentioned that he had been to a centre in Milton Keynes, but did not describe what sort of centre and what they had suggested. It is clearly a job for an expert making an off the shelf bike for him. Add in a new lightweight frame and it begins to get expensive I think. You might want to consider electric assist bikes which may give the right sort of help but without major cost.
