Immigration cap could undermine muscle disease research
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign has responded to the Government announcement of capping non-EU immigration of scientists to 1,000.
Director of Research at the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, Dr Marita Pohlschmidt, said:
“A large proportion of scientific researchers working in the UK come from outside of the EU.
“Imposing a cap to allow a mere 1,000 ‘exceptionally talented’ people from non-EU countries may limit the pool of available talent and undermine the global exchange of scientific ideas, especially if the 1,000 people include sportspeople and other academics.”
