GP commissioning – comment on BMA concerns

Robert Meadowcroft, Acting Chief Executive of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, has commented on the British Medical Association’s response to the Government’s Health White Paper, which sets out plans to give GPs more control of health budgets – read the statement and find out more about the BMA’s concerns

What are your thoughts on the issues raised?

So many of these new initiatives seem to involve the front-line hands-on do-er becoming a paperwork bogged down administrator. It has happened with the Police Force, the front-line Benefit Personnel, Social Workers, NHS Ward staff, now Doctor’s will have to spend 1 day on patient admin and another on budget management!

I don’t find it very encouraging.

Recently my doctor referred me for a minor facial surgical procedure and told me that I could choose which hospital I could have it at and when. Unfortuntely the staff couldn’t work the new system and I ended up being given a telephone number and told to do it myself!

Personally I think doctors should do the doctoring, nurses the nursing and administrators the administration!

I wonder if government ministers get pig farmers in to do their house cleaning?
