    Exercise/Resistance Band

Came across this DIY physio yoga thingy, Its really just a big old rubber band but ideal if you cant get physio or not as often as you like. Was actually given to my mum to work on her shoulder problem caused by lifting me :? She managed to wangle one in a lighter strength for me and it has been fab. its amazing how good it feels. just a couple of basic movement exercises with the right resistance, its like having muscles that actually work

    EXERCISE 1
tie to a grab bar and when facing band pull an end in either hand past your body as much as you can.

    Exercise 2
sitting in a chair- hook band under foot and with one end of band in each hand gently pull up then push down to strech ankles.

    Exercise 3
lie down(I used vent for this one) hook under foot again and gently pull up leg and then gently guide it back down to flat. push down or do little circles with feet.

Ah, the Thera-Band! It’s a useful piece of kit, I’ve been using them for a while now. A physio gave me a whole list of exercises.

It’s well worth bearing in mind that there are different strengths of band available, which will be suitable for different people. And they come in many lengths.

Owwww might have to look into these. I have the wheelchair dvd exercise program, it is still in its box, gathering dust sitting beside the freeview box making me feel guilty

yep… I have been using the lighter (red) one for arms only and the slightly stronger green one for legs. Mine doesn’t have handles but I’ve been told that you can get handles which would be much better for the leg exercises as the rubber does cut into fingers a bit when its pulled tight. And it does tend to sting if it slips out your hand and slaps you on the leg  .

It can also cause a fair amount of pain when it catches the hair on one’s arms or legs or chest. Though I presume this is mostly a man problem. ;)

Think you need a pile of weights to get in shape? Snap out of it and grab an exercise band instead. This portable piece of equipment may be even more effective than a set of dumbbells, because it improves strength and balance.

Only just noticed this thread now.

I was given a yellow theraband by the physio I am currently seeing to try and strengthen my arms. Light weight, you can do as much as you feel able and it can be tied on to things to you for leverage etc.

I take it the colours are the different strengths? I didnt know that as thought they were all the same.

    Happy exercising everyone :D
