    Dual Uses…..

Recently on another post we found my long-handled comb was
equally adept as a nose and head scratcher.

Pleased to pass on two more dual uses.

My Food Trolley makes a perfect Laundry Trolley. Just one trip
from the washing machine instead of seaveral and all at right height.

My Dressing Stick, makes a superb window opener. The one that is
a wooden dowell with two right angles of plastic covered steel rod. I
can knock the catch to the side with one angle and pull or push with
the other. Now can open two windows that have not been open for five years.

Can anyone think of what object to use as a back scratcher? When I am
flat on the sofa I just cannot reach the areas of my back I want to and
genflecting on soft cushions does not work. End up expending a lot of
energy to find a hard surface.

Or indeed can anyone come up with any other DUAL USES?

    Nothing sharp please.

My long-handled shoe horn made of rigid metal woul be
perfect as a back scratcher but I need it as a shoe horn.

    good back scratcher === Artex

for all you peeps under 20, Artex is a hideos plaster wall covering parents insisted in having in the 80s. our hall is done in a jaggy spiky pattern, ugly walls but is great as a back scratcher

    That would work.

You are right we used to have it on every wall in 80’s. My father
used to to do exotic patterns in it, “Moonlight Swirl” and “Basket of
Flowers” were two of his favourites.

Sadly just have one left “Basket of Flowers” on the ceiling. Would make
a perfect backscratcher if I could get up there.

    Here it is ;-

    description :-

This adjustable height trolley made from brown plastic coated steel tubing, is fitted with four swivel casters for maximum maneuverability. The angled handles give improved patient support. The trolley has two teak laminated shelves with raised edgings to prevent items sliding off, but the far ends of the shelves are left open to make it easy to transfer items on and off the trolley. Handle height (centre) adjustable from 800-990mm (33-39″). Shelves 450 x 500mm (18 x 20″).

You can get them online here :-
http://www.thedisabledshop.com/search/all/trolley (there are more expensive ones.

As time goes on I find more and more uses. Best of all pop two soft cushions on the bottom
tray and it is a superb footstool and saves even more spece on the floor

The moment they seem someone with a disability
they seem to double the price and add their birthday.

Immediately it is “rip off Britain” again.

How can they be that expensive there is nothing to them?

Indeed. I’d find one really, really handy but, it will have to wait. I simply don’t have the money just now & I’m bit worried about giving my next meter readings for my heating use – best tariff or not, I’m still worried

Till two years ago we had a Red Cross hall where you
could pick these type of things for a pittance. Maybe
    they still exist other places.

Otherwise haunt charity shops and places that do
house clearances where ineveitably there will be
    disablity aids.

    Re: Dual Uses…..

There’s one seller selling three new ones, all starting price of £29.99 & carriage paid. I think I’ll have a cheeky punt on each one of those in turn & see if I come up trumps. Cheshunt is in the next county over from me & quite a way into it as well I think. I’ll try for one of these carriage paid ones first but, thanks though ;)

    Re: Dual Uses…..

My manual wheelchair has evolved over time and doubles up as a standing aid. We take out the back cushion and lay it across the arms of the wheelchair so I can lean on it whilst standing (in callipersKAFOs). It is very handy when I am out and I need to stand to eat or to get into a better position for breathing.

I am sure there are lots more dual use items but the thing is that these uses just seem normal to me and are no longer anything out of the ordinary…

Remote control as a reaching tool

Drinking straw as a head/neck scratcher (only once I have finished drinking through it!)

    Clipboard as an arm rest

    Clothes Pegs

    1…to keep food bags/crisps closed.

2….To make the toothpaste easier to use when its getting empty, I like to roll the flat end up and pop a peg on.

3… For us, less fortunate in the boob department/good lung capacity dept. too enable us to wrap a towel around ones self at shower time. 1 breath in, 2 wrap towel around body, 3 place peg at top
