Just watched the documentary on the Brexit vote – several times it was said “they didn’t listen” – that was the mistake. So if we push hard enough we might get them to listen and do something right! I take it you didn’t get an answer at the Surgery then Mike?

And for some time it has been a contractual requirement for all English practices to form a patient participation group (PPG) … try googling the full statement and pointing it out to them! And as I have said if mobility is a problem they should also set up a virtual PPG!

I didnt get an answer there except to contact a certain person who they thought might be in charge of it. But no one knew how to contact them, except through another person. Tried that and left a message. guess what, still waiting for a reply. So that is what I am doing this PM, trying yet again. Methinks that they are not too interested in patient’s opinions.

I suspect they too are under intense pressure – so it’s even more important we keep the subject at the top of the “pile to do”. I emailed the template letter re: physio to my MP and got an automated reply. I emailed the template letter re: physio to my MP and got an automated reply. This told me if my email concerned a campaign already undertaken by others I should go to his website, click on MY View and look at his response. I can appreciate they are very busy, especially now they are expected to be “in touch” with their Constituents so it looks like relying on the bigger campaigners really may not get us anywhere – we do need to make the personal approach too I figure! MDUK are working hard at their level – I like to think I am attacking it from my level! If my MP takes this approach then I’m sure many others will too! Anyone’s MP on the Health Committee? I know several who have emailed their GP Surgery asking them to make sure neuromuscular care/treatment is included in the STP for their area. Not every Surgery knows a lot about MD I’m afraid as you will already know!

I have managed to get Dragon and myself on to the Patiants Group at our surgery, so it will be interesting to see what will happen.
Via a vis MPs. I have written to my MP and a minister of health a few weeks ago about a very serious matter with a friend of mine. neither have had the courtesy to reply, either automatically or otherwise. WE talk of democracy in this country, in my opinion it is dead. Our lected representatives represnt themselves and their own agenda and think of us only every five years. What a waste of resources they are.
But I will keep spreading the word as long as I am able.

Good for you Mike – thanks a lot! Slowly slowly etc …. we will get the message across. We have a PPG meeting next week and I have asked for the STP to be put on the Agenda!

Hi Mike – hope you are well. I’ve been very busy doing “research” and had lots of help too! I am hoping to be able to give more towards the end of this week but in the meantime – if you feel you would like to start sending off missives have a look at this :-

It’s worth having a look at the Right to Breathe Report: http://oldsite.musculardystrophyuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/POL1-Respiratory-report.pdf particularly page 5 – Calls to Action. This report incorporates a lot of information from the Invest to Save report in May 2011.
Have a quick look at the Five Year Forward View https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/fyfv-tech-note-090516.pdf Chapter 2 “Getting serious about prevention” and “Empowering patients”
Check out your local Clinical Commission Group – if the sites are all the same – then go the Governing Body, Member Profiles and Localities. If any of Doctors at your Surgery are on this site then you are quids in! You’ll know exactly who to write to!

Yes, Yes, YES!! I wrote to my MP about the need for physio – here is the reply I received today from Neil Carmichael!

    Dear Lesley,

I was surprised to learn of the difficulties faced by individuals afflicted with muscle-wasting conditions.

Having briefly looked at the report and in contacting Peter Sutton, I will be sending a letter to our local Hospital Trust. Also, I will keep in mind the report while carrying out my duties in the House or with colleagues.

I have attached a copy of the letter for your records.

Thank you for bringing these concerns to me.

And he attached a copy of the letter he had sent – so fair play to him! I now need to get back to him and ask him to monitor the Neuromuscular treatment/care planned in the STP!

I’m Secretary of our Branch – our Chairman also emailed her MP and today has had an enquiry from his Manager checking residency so he can reply …

    So it does count!

I am sure that it does count unless you have our MP. Most of the time no one knows where he is, and he only supports the party line of cutting back. But I will read those reports as soon as I can. I am afraid my MD has hit with a vengeance this past few weeks, and sitting or standing or indeed anything is extrememly painful, as well as increaisng my weakness.

I did see that. Saddened yes, surprised no. Every time its the same, and this promises to be one of the worse. No more efficiebcy savings, this is cutting services and I suspect eople will hurt more and may well die as a consequence. It is also interesting to note that it has not been put out to consultation. They are obviously concerned at the backlash, but I also note that it has not been put out for comments, suggestions and discussion. I get the impression that the deal is done. More creeping privatisation, more ways around getting the figures that the government want, more repression of comment, and more misery. But we will have lots of bean counters to tell us how we can save and how well we are doing.
This last weekend our local hospital asked people not to come to A&E as there was a 13 hour waiting time. A snapshot of the future. Interestingly the managers keep their jobs despite such gross failings.
Transformation plans yes, sustainablity no. The NHS is on the verge of collapse. It is top heavy and weighed down with beaurocracy. I really am truly concerned for its future now as are indeed many other health professionals. I will stil keep doing my bit if I can, I just wonder if anyone will listen.

Whether or not you agree with the Brexit vote it does show that people can change things and the MP’s, Ministers etc said their mistake was not listening so .. we should get them to listen now!! You are right, we wont be consulted until after the plans have been approved .. as you said some time ago we need to get the initals MD towards the top of the list of priorities!

That is disgraceful – no excuse at all for bad manners! I can understand your feelings but perhaps I’m more stroppy than you – I would go on the MP’s site, find his email address and contact him that way -AND I would tell him of the returned letter! You deserve an apology at least from him!

I did just that and he (well someone purporting to be him) wrote back telling me to write to the address I just have done! A simple apology was offered too. I will send the complete letter now to the Westminster address. The respondent did say that recorded or similar letters should not be sent to them. Crazy world.
I will not let it go though, but it is a simple example of why I feel unrepresented.

Don’t blame you one bit – that is diabolical treatment! It is disrespectful and ignorant .. you’re right – don’t them ’em win! Keep persevering! Everyone of his constituents should be important to him!
