Worrying cuts to university research funding but some good news for charities
The Higher Education Funding Council For England (HEFCE) – the public body responsible for distributing public money for teaching and research to universities and colleges – has announced its funding allocations for the rest of the 2010/11 academic year and the upcoming academic year. The academic year runs from 1 August to 31 July. There were considerable cuts to research funding and capital funding (for equipment and buildings).
However, there was good news for medical research charities; the HEFCE has protected and maintained the Charity Research Support Fund (CRSF) at £197.5 million.
