    Cervical Screening

I became aware of this lady’s fight to have cervical screening. She says on her webpage that she has a muscle wasting disease and is confined to a wheelchair, unless she has been moved by hoist to another location. In this case it would be on to a doctors examination table. Apparently not such hoists are available and consequently she cannot have the testing which she wants and needs. I am sure that she is not the only one, and thus I signed her petition http://chng.it/x5HjmzQVkN. For myself I find it hard to understand why no such hoists are available somewhere in the system to help her get this examination.
So if you agree that this is a scandal, sign her petition, and maybe, just maybe, life can be made a little easier and safer for the ladies who need this exam.

Already Signed. Lady in question is MD trailblazer and blogger.

I am very fortunate that my Gps nurse will come out to the house for this as no hoist in surgery or lowering beds.

Hope others will support to as it isnt only cervical screening for ladies the lack of a hoist prohibits but also bowel and abdominal exams for both males and females with mobility issues.

From my recent A&E visit for bladder issue no hoist was offered to transfer me either.

A wise thought cat! I wonder if this is something that MDUK might think about raising awareness for? We are all used to dealing with less than adequate access if you are in wheels, even in hospitals, but less than adequate ability to examine your patient properly is not acceptable. In my practice life we always made sure that we could see the patient properly, or visit them at home if that would make it easier. Home visits cost money to the NHS, which may well be the reason they are not really available any more, but without a proper exam the cost could be in lives!

Hey Mike, we’re looking at how we can help support Fi in her campaign and what a campaign in the future could achieve!

I understand that the petition has now reached over 100,000 signatures. a remarkable achievement in a short time, and of course showing the strength of feeling out there.
