Visited my wheelchair bound neighbour yesterday.
She had a problem last week and had an emergency and was not able to alert anyone.
Her kitchen floor gave way slightly and her wheelchair sank down into a four inch depression
where she could not move the chair from. Her mobile phone was being re-charged at the time so
she was hours before she could alert someone.Today we are having fitted for her the CARELINK sytem. This is a system of easy monitoring
run by the local council. It is a new phone with a loudspeaker and a red button. You also
have a red button with you all the time either round your neck or on a wristband. In any energency you press the button and the 24 hour control room is alerted. They will immediately
come over the loudspeaker “Are you allright Mrs Smith”. Then you tell then and they send whatever is necessary. If
they get no answer they know there is an emergency and react right away. most of all
it is peace of mind for the red button wearer.Free to install, weekly charge £ 2 – £ 4. This could be the difference in a
person remaing at home or moving into a home."Even if you are not paranoid, it does not mean they are not out to get you!".

A quicvk google shows Brighton, London, Wakefield have similar
scheme with the same name."Even if you are not paranoid, it does not mean they are not out to get you!".

After that they brought in a new system where they phone you every
month to test it is all working and get you to press the Red Button as
a further Test.We used to have lots of false alarms as the cat used to tread on the
red button all the time. Suddenly out of nowhere a voice used to say “Are You Allright
Mrs Fox or has Bonnie trodden on the Red button again”(you get to know them)."Even if you are not paranoid, it does not mean they are not out to get you!".

I have a bracelet alert thingy and should i press it, it goes through to a local team who can contact key holders like my carers, my family or paramedics if necessary (gosh I hope that ain’t ever gonna happen!).

It used to be a local scheme here run by the council. I’d have to say it’s not been quite the same since they privatised it and calls now get answered by people at a call centre somewhere in the north-west, by the sound of the accents. Though they are always perfectly nice people.
I’ve used it twice in “real” situations, I think. Both time after falls when I needed paramedics to get me up again and check I hadn’t injured myself.
