    Calling All Tech Heads…..

    I wonder if I can ask the advice of the techies among you?

    The only recording I have of my father’s voice is on an ancient dictating cassette machine
    which a few years has refused to work. Machine kaput, so the question is how can I get the voice
    off the tiny little cassette tape which annoyingly is a slightly different size to the mini cassettes
    that all the modern machines use.

    The cassette is called “Petticette” and is an “MT-30”.

    Th machine was an “OEM” “”MC-7” “Micro Cassette Recorder”

    Without a device to play it on – slim chance.

    There is a way to attacch Mac machines to cassette plasyers [via headphones/speaker sockets duuberythingmebobs] and record direct – not done this myself yet, its o that never ending list of stuff to do.

    Got it wrong they are “Petitcette” cassettes I see from the picture.

    there used to be companies such as jessops that could transfer old tape to cd’s. but I think they went bust. have you tried contacting someone like Dixons, to see if they could recommend somewhere.

    I have a mini cassette recorder that still works …. if I knew the tape would play in it, I would offer to do it for you.

    Of course the Video transfer people are going to be able to transfer Audio too.

    Just rung up to see if it is possible. 1993 will be easy meat, they can do stuff back to the dawn of time !

    The tape has gone off in the post today.

    Now I am starting to panic. I know I used it to take voice messages between
    my father in hospital and my bedridden mother, but did I tape over it with my
    latest limericks or decide to record Boy George’s latest opus?

    It will be back in a week, the tension is palpable !

    what a fab idea. we cleared the loft out an few years ago and found a toy Fisher price tape recorder (mine from 80s) :music: and on the tape is a 10 minute recording of my brother and late gran mother. I wonder if it would upset my mum to hear her mums voice or if its something she would like.
