Audiobooks…..
The future for MD people is……..AUDIOBOOKS……!!!!!…
Even holding my e-book reader for a time gives arm and hand pain.
The answer is Audiobooks. I lie in bed or on the Sofa with my Ipod on a little
plastic stand and it very simply tells me stories. No fuss, no bother, no
touching just relax and listen. Even a sleep timer. Or on the Laptop (or PC).Had a nice bath this morning listening and laughing to P.G. Wodehouse while
have a long soak.This is the life.

IPOD / Apple devices = The App store has several apps that sell you Audiobooks and play them.
These are the ones you see in shops, professionally done with well known high paid
actors reading them.There are a couple of Apps (one called “audiobooks”) that link to the Librivox collection
of free public domain books read by amateurs. Some are bad, some are very good. But
they are free. The Gutenberg Project has 36,000 free Audiobooks (PD) but not sure
how to import them.PC = There are several readers. the best is Calibre who are the Audiobook people who supply
all the blind charities.Android + Do not know need help.

Re: Audiobooks…..Libraries West, in my area has a new service with 600 free commercial audiobooks.
I have been one of the guines pigs for this and you just set the thing up to
download to Windows Media Player or ITunes then on to your Ipod or MP3 player.Each month they replace a lot of them so you do not get through their stock.
These are the full price commercial expensive ones.
They say other library groups are starting this service (Essex was mentioned)
Maximum of ten at a time and they evapourate after 21 days.

Re: Audiobooks…..I am listening to the unabridged versionof The Help, it is rather riveting.
I have been a major fan of audio books, have some on tapes and cd’s, my winter project is uploading the cassette ones to my Mac and saving them for future useage.

…and it is a good idea, never thought of that.If you have a mac, it comes with a program called GarageBand and allyou need to do is plug the cassette player [from headphoe socket] into audio in socket and record away ….. never thought it would be so easy but aparently it is!

For the Android platform there are two superb readers…..
Mortplayer…….(android 1.6 and later)
and the more fully featured
Akimbo………..(android 2.2 and later)
Both Free.
Have bookmark and sleep timers. Akimbo has a much better library system.
Still working on the Apple Problem.
