Would you like to help set up a local Awaaz support group?

The Yorkshire and Humber Awaaz group has been set up by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and Leeds General Infirmary. The group has been developed for Yorkshire families affected by neuromuscular conditions to meet and support each other in the region.

The Yorkshire Neuromuscular Awaaz Forum was devised by two mums, Nazma Chowdury from Dewsbury and Anisa Kothia from Bradford who both have sons with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and want to get to know other families affected by neuromuscular conditions in their area.

The aims of the Yorkshire Neuromuscular Awaaz Forum are:

    – For families affected by NM conditions to be able to support and advise each other
    – To raise awareness of the issues affecting people and the profile of neuromuscular conditions
    – To help breakdown the barriers of language and culture that may prevent some families getting the best support available
    – To meet as a support group on a regular basis and to encourage members to build a network that can support each other informally on an ad hoc basis.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is looking to work with other families affected by neuromuscular conditions in other regions of the UK to set up their own local Awaaz support groups which can work in the same way as the Yorkshire group to support local families and raise awareness about neuromuscular conditions.

If this is a project that you would like to become involved with please get in touch with Bobby Ancil at b.ancil@muscular-dystrophy.org or on 07920188970.
