    morning walking

hey peeps, its been a while.
I have started with an annoying and very embarrassing problem.
when I first get out of bed on a morning, I am really struggling to walk. my legs either feel like jelly or are really stiff.
this in turn is affecting my balance.
now here is the embarrassing bit. now we all know that the first call on a morning is the toilet for a squirt.
well due to the walking issue, im not making it to the toilet in time :bang:
what im also starting to find confusing is. there has been many a time that ive fallen asleep on the sofa, yet the walking doesn’t seem to be too badly affected
could somebody please tell me, if your walking first thing is the same and can MD affect the bladder or the urinary system.

So with you in this. It takes me four or five steps for my right heel to fully connect with the floor first thing of a morn, and sometimes especially after an exhausting day the next morning my calves are so stiff. I have had to school myself with no fluids after 7pm, if I want an uninterrupted night. I think it is likely something to do with the length of time laying flat. I too sometimes have a nap, but my night time regime sees me ensconced beneath the duvet for 10 hours (ish). I am not stationary for that length of time at any other time of the day.

    Hi Littlestef,

I can’t help you on the walking problem as I’m now wheelchair-dependent, but with regard to getting to the loo quickly in the morning – how about having a bottle by the bed to use first thing? That would remove the anxiety about taking those first few wobbly steps to the bathroom.

    best wishes,

hiya peeps. ive taken on board what your saying. ive even taken a jug into the bedroom, just in case I need the toilet fast.
however ive met somebody and although we haven’t stopped over at each others homes for the night. im a bit scared at what her reaction will be if she sees making an emergency squirt in to the jug. I mean, how can I expect her to understand that her 43yr old boyfriend, cant make it to the toilet on a morning :bite:

Congrats on the g/f front

I take it you have not broached the subject of your condition very deeply with her yet?

morning peeps. I have tried to explain to her the ins and outs of my condition and she says its not a problem.
however im still nervous about us stopping at each others homes.
I suppose im going to have to bite the bullet and just go with with the flow, if you pardon the pun

Nothing unusual about your legs Steff. I’m able to still get to my feet most days but, only due to having a bespoke rising reclining armchair (it has two motors to lift straight up & doesn’t rake/tilt. This means it nearly lifts me to standing, quire some feat considering I am 6’2″ tall) & a rising profile bed. It’s still very hard work to get to my feet first thing though.

I have fallen quite literally off the bed as my legs have not been ready or strong enough to take my weight in the morning. This is incredibly painful as my body has collapsed onto my legs as they fold under me. I now have a rather awkward way of twisting as I put my feet down in order to face the bed. It scares my OT the way I do it but, it works for me. I find once I’m able to stand locking my knees/legs straight when I’m leaning on & facing the bed as I stand I have much greater purchase, holding the bed & less likely to fall. Then the world’s my oyster, as my body, as with anybody, warms up ready to face the day.

With regard the other problem. I have a bottle under the bed. A proper bottle for the job for a bloke. Not sure you want to do that in front of your girlfriend but, I assume she’ll find it easier to accept, listening to a little tinkle rather than walking/slipping through one ;)

hey peeps, I came off the Codeine last week and guess what? yes my legs are still dodgy on a morning, but no more embarrassing peeing mishaps :D . so im guessing that it was the Codeine that was causing it :bang:

Be careful LittleStef, be sure and go back to the Doctor and tell him they are not doing the job.
