    Grants for wheelchair repairs?

Hi everyone, my son (22) has a privately-funded wheelchair and the actuator has broken for the leg length adjuster. The repairs will cost £720! Does anyone know whether there are any charities that will fund towards equipment repairs? His insurance doesn’t cover it and the chair is out of warranty. Thanks, Penny.

Hi Sorry for late reply. have you received a quote for the repair?

Have you tried MDUK joseph Patrick trust?

    or

    Independent living funds

If you have other conditions maybe google them. ie cheat heart and stroke charities.

    https://www.variety.org.uk/what-we-do/equipment-grants

its worth searching children’s charities as some assist up to 25yrs

    other ideas:-
    local traders association
Religious organisations like the charity wing of the Masonic orders or similar

If none of those work, perhaps an approach to the local Rotary Club may help. I can help with that if need be.

Thank you – unfortunately the Independent Living Fund has ceased in my county and Variety Club only goes up to 18. I have checked the charities and have contacted Elifar and the Carter Trust, which cater for over-18s. JPT part-funded the chair but they don’t fund repairs or upkeep. I also looked at local charities and have found one that says it might be able to source the part at the manufacturer’s and fit it more cheaply than the company that maintains his wheelchair – a total of £400 which is still a lot but better than £720 …

Thank you Mike, I might well take you up on that if Elifar and Carter can’t help!
