Face Mask Exemption
Like many on here I not only have trouble getting around but also have trouble breathing. This is being looked at by the remote consultant, but currently any limited form of activity leaves me breathless.
So I have the question, now that we are required to wear masks in shops, how can I prove that this is something I cannot do? No advice n the government website, GP is not interested and no guidance from the Police. has anyone any experience of this please?Mike

Reply To: Face Mask ExemptionHi Mike. I’m sure there was something on the news which said certain people would be exempt from wearing face masks. That was those with specific health conditions, if you have an md alert card maybe be adequate for you to show when asked. Cc

From what I can gather from googling this, there is no official card or requirement to show proof but some charities and organisations have produced cards that can be downloaded of it helps to carry one.
I won’t be going into shops due to being a 24hr ventilator user. It is considered a non-aerosol procedure thus I’m a risk to others – I couldn’t wear a mask as it would cover the the exhalation valve. I might be able to wear a visor I guess but I think just going to stay away from shops and do everything online.

Reply To: Face Mask ExemptionGenerally speaking wearing some form of face covering is the safest option for you and others. Some masks easier to use than others and there is also a face shield or visor that can be bought cheaply on ebay from UK 3d printing people.
You can also buy a card similar to the “just cant wait” card for hidden disabilities for using disabled toilets. There is various designs, wording and prices from free plus. below is the idea

I struggle in mask so have to both limit and time outings to places that require. I’ve had to visit hospital once or twice during all this and although exempt no way would I risk it. I will carry on with online shopping as much as possible.
I had to visit a Apple store for a phone repair. I wore in mall. in line and right up till being served. My voice wouldn’t carry over mask and I was struggling. The clerk didn’t push issue once I said I had low long capacity.

Reply To: Face Mask ExemptionAll gov and charity’s supporting disability highlight people should not receive abuse or discrimination for not wearing and are not obliged to offer a medical explanation or evidence for not wearing mask out with a medical establishment as long as covid free.
keeping it simple in most causes does pacify a store security guard or clerk. A simple “I have high blood pressure” “I cant put it on” or “Lung condition” is enough to move on.
