    Dealing with the unknown

    Hi Everyone,

I’m pretty new to this so bare with me. I’ve Been with my partner for a few years now and he was diagnosed with a rare form of MD at birth. I knew this when we got together and it just made me love him even more. His attitude to life and his positivity is just amazing. He leads a pretty normal life (he works and we travel etc) and its never been an issue to me that I have to help with things that he can’t do or struggles with. I’ve never looked at him as having a disability and in all honesty, as our lives just adapt to suit his needs, it can sometimes feel like he has no condition at all. We’re currently planning our wedding and once we’re married we plan on having a child through PGD.

The only thing that sticks in the back of my mind is the fear of not knowing what the future will be like. I know no one could ever answer that and even if they did it would never change our relationship. I was never a huge believer in soul mates until I met him! I suppose my question to anyone reading this is, how do you deal with the unknown? I just find myself getting lost and down sometimes if I think too much into it, like how long will he be here for and how much will his condition deteriorate through his life.

Welcome, just to say how lovely. How we deal with the unknown is the same as all people because nobody knows what the future holds. Like everyone you take each day as it comes and from what you say you’re doing a very good job, I think it’s made all a little more anxious because of coronavirus, you have what most people crave each other, and it sounds like you’ll make excellent parents. Good Morning, thank you so much for your kind words. You’re both totally right and I’m not sure why it’s never clicked into my mind to think that way. We really dont know what’s round the corner for either of us! Thank you so much, that’s really helpful for me to change my mindset when I feel my thoughts starting to shift.

The current situation really doesn’t help at all. Hope you’re all safe and well xx

    :welcome:
He is a lucky man. The future sometimes can be scary but with love an comprehension you can deal with the bad things.
I have Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 and I’m a lucky woman too I have a wonderful husband that cares and helps me so much. We start a few month a process to have a baby, if you need any help with that you can talk to me, but we are in the beginning. In your case I think it’s easier because is your fiancee that have it and you can have a wonderful pregnancy without any problems and I hope so.
In my case I can have complications, but I need to believe that everything will go ok.
Have a wonderful wedding and I wish you all the best.
