    BIPAP and dry mouth

I am sure many on here will use one of these devices. I have to use mine overnight and for a bit of time during the day, as my lungs cannot breathe well enough any more.
My problem is that it give me such a dry mouth by morning that I can barely move it until I can get my saliva working again. I have f course used the humidifier in the device even up to the tope setting and it makes very little difference. So other than giving it up altogether or waking to drink every hour has anyone any ideas please? The mask I use covers my mouth and and the holes in the nose are covered by the out let pipes.

    Hi Mike

Could be your mouth is opening. With just a nose mask a chin strap can be used. Not sure if a chin strap would work with mouth and nose covered. Other solution is a dental guard to pull lower jaw forward and closed.

    Could try another mask style.

Hi Cat. My mouth is also covered by the mask, but the mask is not as extensive as the ‘traditional’ mask, which also gave me the same problems. There is no chin strap with the device just around the back of my head and over it. The ventilation team have advised me that there is little that can be done to rectify the problem. Being honest it is making me use it much less which is obviously not good. I use it more during the day now, more because the lungs are worsening rather than to make up the time lost overnight. I am plodding on with using it, but I am not happy with the position I am in with it.

    Hi Mike

Chin straps are something the ventilation team can order. They dont normally come with headgears.

    hears some examples.
